I am very grateful to have gotten the AstraZeneca vaccine. But I’m starting to feel a bit concerned that I’ve been a bit below for a bit too long! Anyone else have this?

I got the vaccine last Sunday. Monday I got flu-like symptoms: fever, headache, chills, nausea and went to bed. Tuesday I woke up tired with a mild headache. And every day since! (9 days now.)

Is this normal? Anyone else? If so, when did you feel completely better?

head, I mean, I don't think growing an extra head has been seen as a side effect, yet!!!!

I had a strange thing happen today. I was in the supermarket, bent down to get something and when I stood up my vision went blurred and I felt really odd. Dizzy, almost panicky. I stood still for a minute and took some deep breaths and it went. All in under a minute. I had AZ nine days ago and I'm wondering if it's linked to that. I have never had blurred vision before. Apart from that I've been tired but generally fine and back to work since having it.

marthasmum · 02/05/2021 20:47

realitea I think blurred vision may be one of the symptoms to get checked out - worth googling?
Interesting thread. My only symptoms initially were mild chills and disturbed sleep for a few nights. Then started to feel ill about a week after I’d had the vaccine - headache, tiredness, mild chills. It’s not bad but is persistent, 10 days now and I’m fed up of it!

Gizlotsmum · 02/05/2021 20:49

Yes me.. but I put it down to changing jobs.. I was really poorly 6 hours after the vaccine for about 12 hours, exhausted for another 24 then just a low level background headache and tiredness for a week..

marthasmum · 02/05/2021 20:49

Just looked again at govt advice, it says headache with blurred vision. But worth looking in case you are having any other of the symptoms mentioned?

Realitea · 02/05/2021 20:51

I'll have a look now @Marthasmum thank you.

I had a headache for days! I mean it was definitely over a week. It was mild and more of a tension headache. Did call the doctor and he asked me if it was unusual for me and its not so he said to monitor it. It eventually went with ibuprofen [ Paracetamol doesnt work on my headaches] and he said it was fine to take that.

This sounds familiar; had it almost a week ago. Aches and felt ropey first 48 hours but then ok, headache started on day 3. On and off, behind eyes and leaves me feeling fuggy and tired.

Felt ok though tired yesterday but I think did too much. I've had a headache with aching neck and back that nothing would shift today. Most of the day wasted as I could only cope if I was lying down in a dark room, more the heavy foggy tiredness than the pain really but it's a definite headache.

Lifted a bit this afternoon, hoping tomorrow is better!

@penni00

I think the vac is causing irritation/inflammation of the nerves. I am 6 weeks on, and still not back to normal - mild headache and light sensitivity- although I would say I have improved to how I was at the worst, but improvement is so slow. I have days when I am quite optimistic that I am virtually over it, but then it creeps back to a degree. I cannot look at tv or computer screens for long now as it makes my eyes hurt. Mine began as a headache at front of head and above my eyes, the position of the headache has moved to my temples over time, and has become milder and not quite as constant as when it was at the front of my head above my eyes. Please do keep updating people - I am interested in how other people go plus especially if anyone after having the prolonged headache with the first dose has gone on to have the second dose and whether the second dose affected their heads.
I’m sorry to hear you’re still not quite right 6 weeks on.

I am still more tired than usual, and I don’t know if it’s linked to the vaccine or not. I have hardly any energy after lunchtime these days. This started after the vaccine, don’t know if it’s something else now or related.

I am dreading the second dose!

This is exactly me. My headache started on day 4 and was exactly behind the eyes and up the back of the neck like a tension headache. Could not shake it with paracetamol. Managed to with Ibuprofen though. It would come and go weirdly until it completely went.
neveradullmoment99 · 03/05/2021 18:33

It was persistent but not sore just annoying.
I am now 4 weeks plus and feel absolutely fine.

penni00 · 03/05/2021 18:52

Wondering whether ibuprofen works better because it is an anti-inflammatory?

Not sure but with any headache paracetamol has no effect on me. I read an article that said that research showed that paracetamol is pretty ineffective and mostly works as a placebo. The doctor said it was fine to take.

You should see a doctor as soon as possible! This isn't normal.

Dustyboots · 23/05/2021 22:19

The number of people I've read on here and spoken to in real life who've talked of symptoms like OP's ... it's sounding like it's normal for this AZ vaccine.

Not that it should be. Not that's it's normal for people to feel like this or react to other vaccines like this - but normal for the AZ vaccine.

@Kitcat122
Has your headache completely gone now? ( I still have mine)
