Coming out of lockdown fatter not thinner

And pissed off with myself. Anyone else?

Plus I'm supposed to be meeting friends in a garden on Wednesday and I don't want to to be honest. I don't have anything to say. I've gone without them this long, I find myself wondering what's the point. That's stupid isn't it? Is it just lockdown fucking with my head? Or is it just because I'm too fat?

@Sittingonabench Ah! yes, I'd forgotten about my three inches of grey roots. Lovely!

Thank you. I feel better knowing I'm not alone in feeling this way. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me.

Baby steps. We'll get there!

I’ve put on a stone and a half and 2 dress sizes, and I wasn’t skinny to begin with.

Also ashamed but all I’ve managed to do since Xmas is plateau, not lose anything.

Don’t be hard on yourself. We are all in the same boat (and people who have lost weight in lockdown are quite frankly WEIRD and I want nowt to do with them! Unless they’ve been seriously ill of course which is different)

Agree with a PP - have a drink before you go, make a joke about your weight gain early on or before you arrive and just get on with catching up. It’ll come naturally once you’re there

@daisiesinmay

Everyone's fatter OP, I don't know of anyone who's coming out of lockdown thinner.

Do you not want to go because of the friends or just because of having to do something social or worries about the virus?

I have to disagree that everyone is fatter (whilst admitting that I personally have gained weight!). Some family members have really got fit during lockdown and got into walking, running, had time to plan menus and try new recipes.

My downfall is working from home too near the kitchen so I have been snacking more than I ever would have done in the office, and have not had to fit comfortably into any suits that I used to wear if I was presenting at an event or similarly 'important' meetings.

Real friends won't care about a few extra pounds, but I can understand the embarrassment factor. Many people are so out of practice at socialising, maybe bear on mind your friends may feel similar to you. Also if you meet in a park and are side by side on a bench you may feel less like you're being stared at or less self-conscious if that is a worry.

I’ve put on at least a stone, if not more. Like others have said, food is one of the only pleasures that has been available over lockdown. I’ve had far too many takeaways and I’m feeling so fat now. I don’t know what I’m going to wear over the summer!

I haven't put on weight, I've grown a pair of massive fucking jowels instead. I honestly don't know where they came from, they just materialised during the second lockdown. Those and massive under eye bags. With my lockdown hair I look about ten years older than I did this time last year and am honestly dreading seeing people again.

fudgefox · 30/03/2021 05:53

I started exercising more and lost weight over the last year but almost everyone I know looks noticeably heavier and is carrying 1 stone+ extra

Tootsey11 · 30/03/2021 08:17

I've lost weight, about 5 pounds, but have gained lovely dark circles under my eyes, and am permanently living in joggers.

I would go Op, will give you a boost to have some normality, who cares about the weight.

MazekeenSmith · 30/03/2021 08:18

Go and meet your friends. They will be feeling as weird as you are.
