Evidence for travel reasons?

I'm taking my DC to visit their Dad next week ( we're separated.) They'll be staying with him and I'm staying in a Premier Inn nearby, as they haven't seen him for a while and may get upset and need me.

The Premier Inn have just phoned and warned me that I may need to show themselves or police evidence/ documentation to prove why I'm travelling, and asked if I had a court order. I don't, it's all informal between us. They said the police may well visit and ask to see some kind of documentation. But I don't know what that could be, any ideas?

Could you show birth certificates and proof of his address (you might not have this) plus any text messages / emails that you've had with him to arrange the visit?

Oh thanks Frog, birth certificates are a good idea, and I can ask him for something with his address on and could take something with my address on. Good thinking.

I recently had to stay overnight for medical treatment, Ibis hotel chain cancelled my reservation 2 days before saying my reason for staying wasn't valid. I booked into a different hotel and they didn't need to see any proof. I stayed in a Holiday Inn express.
