Chances of May 17th getting pushed back?

Feeling really low today. Lots of people round here sitting and laughing in their gardens with friends and while it's lovely to see I feel a bit down I have no one to invite over and no one to see! I am desperate to see my mum but she lives too far away to come just for a sit in the garden and the same with my (few) friends. I know no one else round here and I feel so lonely.
I'm pinning all my hopes on May 17th happening as set out in the road map, with the increasing cases in Europe and the R rate rising due to schools/non essential retail etc , what are the chances this will get pushed back do you think?
Obviously I know no one can say for sure, but I just feel like I need a bit of hope today!

I’m really hoping that the roadmap stays on track too. I see no reason if hospitalisations and deaths stay low that we can’t stick to it, even if cases rise.

Self catering accommodation is allowed from 12th April. Could you have a mini holiday in your family and friends areas and go visit them in the garden?

notrub · 29/03/2021 13:41

Are either yourself or your mum a single person household (excluding young children)?
If so you can bubble with her.

But you can only do this with one household so it's either mum or friends.

ChocChip01 · 29/03/2021 13:47

I get your concerns my mum leaves too far just to pop round for a visit in the garden for a few hours as well. I am desperate for her to see her grandchildren. She has only seen them twice since March 2020 the last being 7 months ago. The kids are only little so have changed so much. The youngest is walking and talking now! If 17th May is significantly delayed I will be utterly crushed. Keeping everything crossed.

Beebityboo · 29/03/2021 14:17

No my mum lives with my step-dad and is a carer for my brother so no chance of a bubble really. I have seen her once since last March due to me shielding. I don't know how I'll cope if it gets pushed back I really don't Sad.

Cases and R rate aren't the focal point now. Hospital rates are what the government will be looking at. Remember, lockdown was purely to protect the NHS. We know that the R rate will rise when schools went back. The government knew that too. The only way the roadmap will be pushed back is if the NHS risks being overwhelmed again, which hopefully shouldn't happen now a huge amount of the most vulnerable are vaccinated.

Have you got children? Can you invite a play date with or without the mum over? At least the garden would have some noise in it then.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 29/03/2021 14:47

I'd definitely consider looking for some self catering accommodation after the 12th and go see your mum for the weekend just pray for dry weather

Yes of course this is s possible

There is no self catering where she lives (urban area, near a city) or that would actually be a really good idea. I take it they aren't counting hotels as self catering?

No school friends either really, the DC's have friends but we were quite newish to the area when lockdown happened and I haven't been able to really get to know any of the other parents.

Would there be air bnb?

OddBoots · 29/03/2021 15:35

You would be surprised where there is self catering, air b&b have it as do places like booking.com if you rock the apartment search filter.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 29/03/2021 16:13

I'm thinking quite small risk now for both the April 12th and May 17th changes being delayed. The uncertainty over overseas travel is the main thing, and also when face coverings in shops and on public transport might end.

Hotels no, but there will definitely be air bnb placces in an urban area.
GrandDuchessRomanov · 29/03/2021 16:47

Air bnb is definitely your friend here. We have one booked for 2 nights from the 25th of April. Would have gone sooner but DH didn't have the time off.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 29/03/2021 16:48

Also, lots of pubs do self contained flats which qualify. Get googling OP.

May will be okay. They might move the goalposts a bit for June.

lubeybooby · 30/03/2021 06:46

it sounds like you are a single person household, so therefore you can bubble with her and always could have done this whole time. They don't have to be a single person household, just all in agreement to only bubble with you. Then you can function as one household including just her coming to stay with you or all of them or vice versa
