Anyone had positive PCR after negative LFT?

DS has been self isolating due to a case in his school bubble, though this may be a red herring.

DS is fine but has complained of a headache whenever he stands up for a few days now.

I have a new, dry, continuous cough. I feel a bit sick, upset tummy and have really clammy feet.

DH has a banging headache behind his eyes and also feels a bit sick.

All three of us have had negative LFTS and no fever.

I have taken a PCR as the only one of us with "classic" symptoms. Feeling like it's unlikely to be positive after we've all had negative LFTS - has anyone else had a positive pcr after negative lft?

LFT have a high false negative rate so you could get a positive PCR

All three of us have had negative LFTS

When? They could’ve been negative because the viral load was not high enough to be detected on them. The viral load could’ve increased between your LFT and your PCR.

If they were 6h apart, unlikely. If they were a day or more apart, it’s possible your PCR will be positive. There is a very narrow window for the test to catch a positive case - when the viral load is high enough.

My DP, a teacher. Negative LFT 24 hours before symptoms started. Several colleagues/students too, who all could be traced back to one positive but in school student.

DH took his LFT on Thursday at work. DS and I did our LFTs this morning. I went to get a PCR this afternoon.

My symptoms started with a cough Friday afternoon. Upset stomach and clammy feeling started tonight.

DH headache started this afternoon.

DS headaches on standing have been going on most of the week but I assumed it was dehydration and have just been telling him to drink more Blush

Me and both my teenager children had negative lateral flows but positive PCRs.
I took a lateral flow half an hour before my PCR!

Curlysusie · 28/03/2021 21:56

Not personally but know of a few people this has happened to. Negative lateral flow and positive pcr. Best get checked x

ittakes2 · 28/03/2021 21:56

Sorry but the lateral flow tests aren't as sensitive as the PCRs so yes you could all have Covid I am sorry. There was a point where my husband's business was using the lateral flows in January and so many people tested negative but ended up with positive PCRs after symtoms they stopped using the test. One person had a positive laterial flow and a negative PCR. However, I believe the ones used in schools and the community are better than the ones my husband's business was using.

Not personally but a lot of people at my work (a school) had negative LFT but as they knew they had been in contact with a positive went for a PCR anyway and tested positive.

Hyacinth88 · 28/03/2021 21:58

There are so many other bugs going rounf here. Which is strange with all the handwashing and mask wearing hope you get a negative result and are all ok

RebeccaCloud9 · 28/03/2021 21:59

Yep I did. Pcr one day after negative lft. Upset tummy and sinuses were my first symptoms.

edballsfriendlyneighbour · 29/03/2021 14:29

PCR was negative 🥳
