Vaccine booked through go. Do they book them both at once?

Just that. Are there any GPs on here, or anyone else know whether they book the first and second vaccine for people at the same time? I know they don't notify people of the second one at the same time as the first, but that doesn't mean they haven't booked it at the same time. My GP seemed to think the vaccine centre would give me a date for the second one when I got the first, but they said the GP will notify me, which leaves me wondering if anyone is going to book it. While I could probably book it online, I couldn't book it at the same venue as it is not given as an option through the online booking system.

Can you explain if you booked the first through a link sent by the GP practice or did you use the national (government) booking system.

GP practices run their own booking system that gives you access to their vaccination hubs or centres. Most don’t book the second appointment at the same time as the first. They will send a link to book nearer the time but at 11-12 weeks. Based on information in their systems.

The national booking system automatically books a second appointment with the first.

Everyone o know who went thru gp only got the first, if they booked online they got the second at the time of booking.

I went to a centre for my first as a walk in when a glitch meant no one was booked in so they were giving them to key workers. I was told to book my second online which I did no problem. I would wait for your gp, but online is an option if you are worried.

GP bookings you have to wait to be called for 2nd booking.
Online you get both appointments at once.

@LemonTT, the GP booked it himself and just told me the date, time and place to go.

I was sent an online booking link by my GP (not the national booking site) and I was asked to book both the first and second jabs at the same time. I think it is probably different depending on where you are.

Staffy1 · 27/03/2021 23:15

It's just that the GP did it as a spur of the moment thing, I don't think I was already on any list of theirs, and as he seemed to think the vaccine centre would book the second one, I'm not sure it's going to be booked at all. I presume going to a different centre for the second one wouldn't be a problem? (If I we're to book the second one myself, it would have to be at a different place).

I was sent a link to book online by the GP. I could only book one appointment. I was told to wait for the GP to invite me to book the second at a later date.

LemonTT · 27/03/2021 23:20

GPs have slightly different booking systems. Some allow you do book directly and some will manage the bookings internally.

If the practice is doing the bookings then at your 11-12 week recall they will send you a new date and time. They have systems designed for call and recall.

PickAChew · 27/03/2021 23:21

My national hub booking was both at once but ds1's gp appointment is just the first, for now, then they'll contact him for his second.

AlwaysLatte · 27/03/2021 23:24

Following. My Mum was given both vaccination dates (over the phone from her GP) beforehand and had her first jab but she's now received a letter asking her to book the second, so not sure if the date they gave her for the second is still on. She tried to call Thursday and Friday but spent 3 hours trying to get through each time before her phone battery died (they never answer the phone). Not sure what to do!

This is my experience. I was eligible and so booked through the website at a large vaccination centre and had to book first and second appointment at the same time. DH was eligible to book through the website but got a text from the GP before he’d done so and so took the appointment that they arranged. They haven’t given him the second date yet but have emailed to say he is on their list and so will be informed of the second date in due course. Whether or not this means they have ‘booked’ it or not remains unclear.

I got vaccinated by GP in mid March. I got told I’d be contacted around end of April for the second. I’m a bit concerned because I was contacted for my first by telephone but I can’t always answer my phone during the working day. Hopefully they’ll leave a message if they do it that way again.

allmycats · 28/03/2021 10:37

I was booked through my work as close contact. I was only able to book for the 1st dose. I have to wait until they get back to me for the 2nd dose. 11-12 weeks after 1st dose. I do have a phone number for if they don't contact me. You Can't book a 2nd dose through the government site if you did not use them for the 1st, it rejects you after your NHS number and tells you to contact the original source.

I had my first vaccine at my gps. I was given a card with the date of my second vaccination on it.g

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 28/03/2021 20:44

I had my first one at the surgery and was just told I would be informed of the second date when they could book it. Second one was done last week and I was just told about it a week or two in advance

Tippytaps · 06/04/2021 10:33

Thought you might like an update OP.

My GP has sent me a link to book my second vaccination, I am just within the 12 week window (if I can get an appointment, everywhere is fully booked).

I did not need to prompt or remind my GP so it does seem like they have a system in place. I hope this provides some reassurance.
