Rule of 6 in gardens

When the rule of 6 comes in for private gardens does it count number of people on the property or number of people gathering in the garden?
If family are home but staying inside can you have 5 friends to sit in the garden?
No contact between garden guests and rest of household but taking over 6 house total count. I don't think there's a definitive answer but in interested in opinions.

I actually think it’s much less responsible to immediate have 5 people from 5 different households mixing than it is to have 10 people at a property with 4 indoors and 6 outdoors. I’ll be sticking to mixing with one or two other households at a time to start off with.

I'll add mine Grin just to annoy a few pp - if MIL is in our bubble, is it acceptable for her to come over as well as another household? (She probably would be glad of the excuse NOT to see my parents...)

In your bubble yes, but the rule of six means six in England.

@GoWalkabout if she is in your bubble she counts as one household with you, so you can see one other household together.

And this isn’t aimed at you but at anyone saying but it’s still six people read.the.rules rule of 6 from any number of households or 2 households (bubbles not counted) of any size! It really isn’t that difficult to understand.

This is pretty much what they do at home when they come out of lockdown. 2 household bubble, then a 4 house hold bubble in the next step. No idea why they don't do that here, it makes things much simpler and you can meet indoors then as well. And it's seems more sensible from an infection control point of view.
