DP in group 6 but no invite?

My DP (34) is in group 6 but hasn't had an invite. He's rung the GP and despite telling them he's classed as group 6 they just keep saying wait until your age bracket?

His height and weight has recently been recorded with them so I'm not sure what the issue is?

Has anyone else faced similar issues?

Thank you in advance!

Is he group 6 because of his BMI? Is it over 40? If he is actually eligible as group 6 he should be able to book directly on www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

Does your gp surgery have an option of online form contact? I tend to get better results from my gp surgery when I put things like this query in writing. It also bypasses the dragon telephone receptionist who is told to gatekeep and bat away vaccine queries at all costs.

Do you mind telling us why he’s in Group 6?

DH & DS1 were originally in Group 6 due to asthma but the groupings were changed & asthma no longer counts unless you have emergency admissions due to it.

lizardosis · 25/03/2021 20:07

I am in group 6 because of mental health. I had a hunch that they have not coded me right so I gave them a call. Receptionist was adamant that mental health doesn't belong to group 6 but after another call I was coded and I could book appointment.

I would call your surgery and ask if he is in group 6.

AwFeebs · 25/03/2021 21:00

@CoffeeRunner his BMI is above 40. This has recently been verified by the doctor. (He is trying to reduce his BMI BTW)

Tried booking online but just says he's not an front line health or social care worker. Confused

he needs the gp to add a group 6 flag to his records. Until that haplens he wont be able to book online.

AwFeebs · 26/03/2021 08:30

The receptionist won't do it @kimlo

Just says wait for your age bracket despite him explaining he's in group 6.

He’s clearly not registered as group six. Has he explained his bmi is now over forty and his records need to be updated?

Redsquirrel5 · 26/03/2021 08:34

I’m in Group 6 and 64 next month I had mine yesterday through NHS not GP. He may have to wait.

Splicedbananas · 26/03/2021 08:36

Get him to book a call with the GP to get round the receptionist issue. He really should be prioritised. No one, least of all his GP, would want him to get Covid and it sounds like the receptionist has misunderstood the rules.

AwFeebs · 26/03/2021 08:36

Yes @Bluntness100. He went the other day to have height and weight recorded and added to his record. Was told takes 48 hrs to update on the system then can book online. Its been 4 days and still unable to.

I've asked him to call again.

@Redsquirrel5 I did wonder this but our area has moved on to group 7 so seems weird if that's the case.

AwFeebs · 26/03/2021 08:38

I'm nagging him to call again. He doesn't want to make a fuss.

He asked me if he needed ID to go the doctors so shows how long he's not been for. Blush

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2021 08:39

I’d urge him to give them a call and say it was to be done in two days can he have an update on expected timing.

kimlo · 26/03/2021 08:43

he needs to speak to the doctor. If he hasn't been flagged theres no way around it.

When the group 6 flag was added to my records I had a phone call off the doctor to book and was able to book online within hours.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2021 08:51

I think the way it’s originally written is misleading.

Really what the op wanted to say, it seems is

“My husband has a bmi of over 40. His gp was not aware of this so he was not registered as such in group six. He has left it very late and only visited his doctor 4 days ago to have it registered, they said two days to update his records, but it’s been four”.

AwFeebs · 26/03/2021 09:09

Yeah I'm not the best with putting things in to words. Grin

He's rung. They're going to look in to it they've said.

kimlo · 26/03/2021 09:13

hopefully it will be added today and the gp will be able to book him in for one soon.

Lurkingforawhile · 26/03/2021 09:16

Good luck OP - sounds like it should be fixed quickly now.

Redsquirrel5 · 26/03/2021 09:19

Oh good. I. Asked to speak to my GP last week as DH is older than me but fit and healthy. He was offered the NHS one then the surgery one a few days later so meant he only had to travel about 9 miles. GP said take the NHS one as he didn’t know how long I would have to wait otherwise.
I rang as I have allergies and allergic reactions to medicines and once to the flu injection so I was prepared not for their waiting list. I had to go an hours drive away better than my friend who was offered one an hour away and one in Brighton. We live in the very north!

Livpool · 26/03/2021 10:00

I am in group 6 because of severe asthma (I am 40) and had my first dose weeks ago. He needs to chase

ittakes2 · 26/03/2021 10:55

If your GP has a complaints officer ring them and ask them to check his weight has been coded correctly. Sometimes the information is in the notes but has not been in the 'proper' section for it to trigger an invite. Sometimes receptions/gps don't look into these but the complaints officer will.
