to be sick of the gaslighting and rewriting of history over Christmas.

The gaslighting continues.

graziadaily.co.uk/life/in-the-news/covid-a-year-on-frontline/

Janitha Gowribalan, 36, an ICU doctor in London who told us at the start of the pandemic she was worried about how they were going to cope. ‘I didn’t appreciate the fragility of life before. It’s been profound,’ she says. She hasn’t seen her mum since before it all began. ‘I’ve forgotten to be kind to myself and make sure my needs are met
Janitha has patients still in hospital who caught the virus when rules were relaxed before Christmas

The sensationalist press conference on the 19th December put London and Essex into tier 4 banning families getting together #christmasiscancelled was trending on Twitter. The rules wernt relaxed at all. WTF

Gaslighting people just before you expect them to do a SECOND Easter in lockdown. Not a great idea i would have thought.

Makes me wonder how much history was rewritten after the two World Wars. Living in the digital age that is harder. Doesnt seem to stop people having a bloody good go at it though. This is a bloody insult to those who have made sacrifices not seeing their families for many many months. DB hasnt seen our parents for months. He would go tonto if he read this.

People have made so many sacrifices not seeing family , including relatives who were terminally ill. Good luck getting compliance for another winter lockdown if its needed.

I am in Kent so yes Christmas was indeed cancelled (in terms of any plans to see family on Christmas Day, and any bookings I had for outside attractions were cancelled)
But- for 9 days, yes 9 days, hairdressers were open, non essential shops were open. Tbh I can’t even remember now if restaurants were open for those 9 days before it all closed down again.
So if she means those 9 days then yes some restrictions were relaxed.
However I have noticed on MN, that many people say- if we hadn’t gone ‘mad’ at Xmas we wouldn’t have had another lock down. Or we were all so irresponsible at Xmas seeing family and eating out. Errr no. No family allowed here at all. No Xmas except a lockdown Xmas here. Pisses me off that some thing we went ‘crazy’ at Christmas

MercyBooth · 24/03/2021 23:25

We went into tier 4 on 19/12 so hairdressers, pubs, shops shut that evening. I did spend Christmas Day and Boxing Day at my parents. Im support bubbled with them as i have a disabled person i care for (DH) but DB couldnt come from the next town
The article mentioned London which indeed also went into tier 4 on 19/12 along with Essex which is where i am.

But people were allowed to meet for one day at Christmas in many parts of the country, weren't they? I'm sure it was allowed round here, though we chose not to take advantage of the relaxation.

London and the South East don't necessarily reflect the entire country.

AlexaShutUp · 24/03/2021 23:30

And even in London and the South East, people were out shopping as usual until Tier 4 started. I thought it was nuts at the time!

MercyBooth · 24/03/2021 23:30

No @AlexaShutUp BUT THE ARTICLE MENTIONS LONDON

OP posts:
FloraFauna27 · 24/03/2021 23:30

The ICU doctor is in London though, where there were no rule relaxations.

AlexaShutUp · 24/03/2021 23:34

Fair enough that the doctor was in London, I missed that initially. But surely that means they're talking about the period before Christmas then, between the November lockdown and the start of tier 4?

FloraFauna27 · 24/03/2021 23:34

@AlexaShutUp

And even in London and the South East, people were out shopping as usual until Tier 4 started. I thought it was nuts at the time!
That wasn’t a rule relaxation for Christmas though was it? If you were in a tier 4 area, had any plans scuppered (I wasn’t going to go to anyone’s house anyway, but as it was I had to post my mum’s presents as we went into tier 4 and she was still tier 3, and cancel the ONE Christmas outing I had booked for my 6 year old. She couldn’t even see family outside), and then you are now being told the rules were relaxed it’s pretty infuriating. And no, I don’t live in London.
FloraFauna27 · 24/03/2021 23:35

It wasn’t a rule relaxation, it was literally just the rules at that point.

AlexaShutUp · 24/03/2021 23:35

I remember watching footage of the heaving shops and being amazed that people were behaving as if there was no pandemic!

AlexaShutUp · 24/03/2021 23:39

That wasn’t a rule relaxation for Christmas though was it?

Not for Christmas, but the article says before Christmas. We were in a sort of lockdown in November, and then the rules were relaxed in December before the introduction of Tier 4, no? I'd say before Christmas covers that period, when loads of people were out and about doing Christmas shopping etc.

AlexaShutUp · 24/03/2021 23:42

If I recall correctly, theatres were open in London during that period too? I think London was still in Tier 2 at that stage?

MercyBooth · 24/03/2021 23:44

19th December is before Christmas. Im sure if it was coming out of the November lockdown the doctor would have likely said that that lockdown should have continued.

OP posts:
Myalternate · 24/03/2021 23:44

We went into Tier 4 on 20/12 all non essential places closed and no family gatherings on Christmas Day 😞

MercyBooth · 24/03/2021 23:45

YY @Myalternate It started at midnight.

OP posts:
StarCat2020 · 24/03/2021 23:45

Lockdown 2 ended on 5 December and in London Tier 4 started on 19 December, perhaps she was talking about then?

There have been some epic gaslighting examples from our supposed leaders this year so in comparison (IMHO) this pales into insignificance.

MercyBooth · 24/03/2021 23:47

Oh God @StarCat2020 I totally agree re gaslighting. But this is my last straw moment re this particular tactic.

OP posts:
DogsAreShit · 24/03/2021 23:49

Yes the theatres were open for Xmas shows and people were doing all their Xmas shopping. I guess that's the relaxation before Xmas that she's referencing then? We'd locked down for a month previous.

StarCat2020 · 24/03/2021 23:50

The worst one is that Boris is already saying that the next wave will wash here from Europe.

SAGE said in February that there will be another wave but the level of it depends on many things.

Already he is preparing the public to blame Europe when it happens.

MercyBooth · 24/03/2021 23:50

Relaxation until the 19th I mean.

Tippexy · 24/03/2021 23:51

@FloraFauna27

It wasn’t a rule relaxation, it was literally just the rules at that point.
