Mixed vaccine

My DM has been invited for her 2nd covid19 vaccination next week. The text states she will be having the Pfizer vaccination, however her first dose was Astra Zeneca - I've read multiple publications, including the BMJ stating that vaccinations should not be mixed until further research is carried out.

Does anyone have any information/knowledge regarding this please?

Is it worth speaking to your GP to see if anything can be fine at all?

@HedgeSparrows

Is there not a trial running that suggests two different vaccines results in higher immunity?
Yes there is, but it's not being rolled out to the gen pop yet as the science isn't tried and tested.

Sounds like a simple task, doesn't it? I've been trying to get her in to see the GP for something completely unrelated for 3 weeks 🙄

DM has gone from entirely independent with all things health related to completely dependent on her 2 daughters due to not having or wanting a mobile phone or internet access.

That sounds so bizarre! GPs here have been saying that they've been told that all their next deliveries are only AZ, and that any Pfizer left is only for second doses. I thought if anything, Pfizer was going to be the one that was difficult to get for second doses.

I hope you get it sorted somehow. I wonder if the nearest mass vac hub or pharmacy would have some, as that's all they ever seemed to have had here. Did you ring 119, or only the number on the letter? I'd try 119 and see if you could get her in at a larger hub, even further away.

I rang the 0800 number on the text message - I'll try 119 tomorrow, assuming it's not a 24 hour service.

119 is 7am - 11pm

Are you based in the South? I was told there was no Pfizer expected on the NW for some time, and 2and doses only

Gladioli23 · 23/03/2021 20:16

I would talk to PALS at the CCG if the hospital can't help. Hospitals should have small stocks of AZ so they might be able to squeeze her in but if not you need to look to the PALS team at the CCG as though they might not know themselves I am 99% certain somewhere should be able to squeeze her in, even if it's on top of a normal clinic day.

Spoke to a lovely lady on 119 - sadly no AZ available in the region but supply hopefully expected before the 12 week window closes for DM. It's a bit of a shock to be dealing with all this in week 10!!

Advised to just keep trying.
