Rumours abound that that’s what they’re thinking of introducing this summer in response to pressure from the aviation and tourism industries. Any idiot can see that tourist hotspots (in particular) bring together people from all over the world, with various levels of cases and variants in their own country, and that the virus doesn’t travel on direct flights to the UK only. Countries have been known to massively understate the levels of the virus in their or simply BS in order to draw tourists in (eg Turkey last summer).
What’s happening in Brazil - significant levels of hospitalization in a population that we already thought had a good degree of herd immunity - should be a warning to us all.
Instead we now have the risk of a vaccine-resistant variant being introduced to the UK and another lockdown in the autumn-winter. Fuck that.
