Will third wave delay reopening?

Apologies if this has been posted already, I couldn’t see it. Boris is now talking of a third wave from Europe potentially (or inevitably) hitting us. Does that combined with the vaccine shortage mean the big reopening on 12th April could be delayed? Or will we go ahead as planned?

No to delay imo

Apart from May travel date

nonono1 · 23/03/2021 09:31

My ds had a flight booked to Europe on 30th June that was cancelled by the airline and moved to 1st July.

Well, that’s only one day’s difference so not too bad!

Let’s just hope our hospital admissions keep going down and stay down. I’m pinning all my hopes on everything opening up as planned, because I don’t think I can take much more of this.
@QueenStromba they aren't at a risk that will overwhelm hospitals though. Otherwise they would have been prioritised for vaccinations. There will be a level of "acceptable" hospital numbers.
Well that's fine then. As long as we're not going to overwhelm the NHS let's just ignore the personal risk of hospitalisation and long covid. If you're happy to throw asthmatics under the bus at least be honest that's what you're proposing.

The third wave we’re now due to have is down to Boris the bulldozer opening up too soon.

He’s blaming it on Europe- but we’ve had the Kent variant already, our third wave will be nothing to do with Europe’s.

He’s building up to telling us the roadmap’s delayed.

No no no this mustn't happen 😢

Kittens I doubt it.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2021 10:01

... doubt it will be delayed that is

@User133847

Open up domestically and keep the bloody borders closed.
This. Don't necessarily rush opening in the uk but if safe then do so. I am also questioning some of the travel exemptions - in this day and age how many people actually really need to travel abroad for work - what needs doing f2f that cant be done via zoom/teams etc? Border restrictions need to be so much tighter for the time being.
HolmeH · 23/03/2021 10:14

Shut up @Dustyboots - you are an absolute troll on every thread. You & another user who thinks vaccines don’t work at all despite the actual evidence 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

If you want to stay locked in your house terrified of the 3rd wave, go ahead. Most people won’t be.

As for asthmatics & the over 40’s, you need to look at your personal risk & do what you feel is ‘safe’. I’m a moderate asthmatic but I’m not scared. I will be out & about living life in April, I can’t wait to be honest. My consultant has reassured me that asthmatics really aren’t fairing any worse than the general population unless it’s not under control or you are on significant steroids that weaken the immune system.

We need to stop being so afraid, it’s really not healthy!

BlackPuddingEggs · 23/03/2021 14:14

nonono1 I agree that delaying by a day isn’t really an issue - it’s more that it seems they have cancelled all flights in June - so on this route EasyJet don’t expect flights to be allowed before July at the earliest.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/03/2021 14:33

@QueenStromba I'm being realistic. We aren't going to stop everyone getting Covid. That was never the goal. Lockdown was to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed, there's no point pretending otherwise.
