A holiday cottage 8 miles from home

For a few days in the Easter Holidays. Just to have something different to look at for a change! Trying to work out if this would be against the rules. We cycled past it yesterday, which is definitely allowed. But driving to it would not be essential travel.

I'm going to a holiday cottage in the Easter holidays. 3 hours from home. It's legal from 12th April.

Racoonworld · 22/03/2021 12:15

From 12th April it's legal. Before that, no.

Wonderful. Off to bookSmile

The above posters aren't quite correct - it should be legal from 12 April assuming we're on track and meeting the four tests. However the govt may change the rules if the school openings (for example) have a greater than anticipated impact.

I had to drive 4 hours on Friday - judging by how packed the motorways were, I’d say the ‘essential travel only’ is a load of bollocks. Can’t you see that if you can cycle there, driving there is actually no different?! What difference would it make to the spread of a virus?

Seainasive · 22/03/2021 14:02

I can see that, but police round here have been a bit overzealous with handing out fines for driving to the countryside for walks Hmm

I mean, it might be a way around the rules so to speak but it strikes me as a colossal waste of money to pay for accommodation at home. I'd just wait and go further afield when it's allowed.

Chickenriceandpeas · 22/03/2021 14:13

Cycle there then - pack light!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 22/03/2021 14:13

you are allowed to go further afield from 12th April, if all goes to plan.
