What happened to moonshot and getting our lives back?

Weren’t we supposed to be able to test in the morning, and if negative, live the day normally? I’m sure this is what Bojo proposed last autumn. Did this turn out to be the lateral flow tests that schools are now using? Or has the idea been quietly dropped? I’ve never seen anything official on this, and wondered what happened!!

I have no idea what your talking about- are you sure it wasn’t a dream?

sashagabadon · 20/03/2021 18:38

Isn’t it kind of here though with all these lft’s?? I’m falling over them in my home what with my kids school and my work handing them out like sweeties. I think this is the plan isn’t it, we’ll all have easy access to these tests and can do a test and then go to school , work, cinema etc
I’ve just finished helping with the testing at my kids school and they had boxes of tests.
I find the testing system now pretty impressive to be fair to Cummings or whoever ime.
I don’t have any tracing experience so can’t talk about that.

It was called moonshot for a reason, probably wouldn’t happen. But the lfts are ramping up now so hopefully that should help.

2020isnotbehaving · 20/03/2021 18:43

I hope they are going to make them available to more people now we are lifting lockdown. No kids in school and don’t work so can’t get hands on any (yet)

CarrieBlue · 20/03/2021 19:19

The technology needed to be invented. That hasn’t happened. In other news, pigs aren’t expected to fly any time soon.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/03/2021 19:21

I remember talk about the Moonshot but can't remember what exactly it was.

Cuddling57 · 20/03/2021 19:22

They also did an announcement last year about digital machines being able to produce test results quickly that I think were going to cost £1k I have a vague memory of!

Moonshot was Dom Cum’s little Innova plan, wasn’t it? Shit tests that didn’t work very well and missed more positives than they found.

I think nobody else wanted them so they were shoved in the direction of schools to pretend they were safe to open.

Lemons1571 · 20/03/2021 19:28

I suppose the government hoped the LFT’s would be more accurate. So we could test at 8am then if negative live the day normally ie go to the cinema, theatre etc. They can’t really have people rely on a negative result (too many false negatives so a risky strategy) and go out mixing with others.

It got renamed moonshit because it was more Johnson lies.

They were told the tests wouldn't work and bought them anyway Angry

I also suspect this. They really do think we are gullible idiots.
