Have you had the vaccine and the virus?

I'm wondering whether there are many people who have had both the virus and the vaccine?

Were your vaccine side effects similar to your symptoms when you had the virus? Mine were and I'm just wondering how normal that was.

If anyone who actually knows about these things could explain whether the side effects are likely to be similar to the symptoms, I'd be really interested too.

I had Covid at New Year. Symptoms were bad headache for weeks, fever for one day, dizziness, fatigue, tinnitus and complete loss of taste and smell.

I have had one dose of AZ vaccine, side effects were high fever, muscle aches, headache, sore arm, lasted 24 hours.

Wildswimming3 · 20/03/2021 09:05

Yes. Side affects were the same

Etulosba · 20/03/2021 09:10

Yes. The side effects were broadly the same, although not nearly as severe and only lasted a few days. I didn't lose my taste/smell or get a sore arm.

Never had the classic covid symptoms but was very poorly with it. With vaccine had some of same side effects - migraine, skin blisters but only for 2 days.

Houseplantmad · 20/03/2021 09:13

Oh and a badly upset stomach with both.

Virus: cough and fatigue were the main thing. Fever just for a few hours, diarrhoea for a few days.

Vaccine: very mild headache, felt a bit tired. Tenderness at injection site, nothing too uncomfortable, but a red patch which spread for 5 days before fading.

So, no, I would not say my vaccination side effects were like having the virus.

Had Covid at Xmas, only symptom was loss of taste as smell. Had AZ jab on Thursday and only side effect was a slightly sore arm for a couple of hours and bad stomach ache in the middle of the night which may or may not have been related. No other issues. I did drink lots of water both the day of and the day after Jab.

My husband has. He had a day or 2 of feeling very exhausted again which was his main symptom when ill with the rony. I actual spoke to a GP about it recently and they said that if you've had covid near to the vaccine it will act as a booster and therefore you may feel slightly worse.

HSHorror · 20/03/2021 09:35

I had with covid
Sore throat
Chills
Fatigue
Cough
Shortness of breath and chest pain
And loss of appetite (and ongiong brain fog/numb hand and muscle twitches)
Will see tonight if symptoms match

Wildswimming3 · 20/03/2021 09:42

Sorry we’re much milder and no loss of taste smell

IndiaMay · 20/03/2021 09:47

Not me but I know people who have had both and its varied from person to person. Eg one friend had bad covid and has had the vaccine and had no effects after the vaccine, one friend has had asymptomatic covid and had the vaccine and had no side effects, another friend had a mild cold with covid and vaccine and had a day of bad side effects

Thanks. I have no agenda here btw. Just curious - it really struck me how similar the headache was to the one when I had the virus and wondered if it was typical that immune responses would be similar. Sounds like it doesn't really work like that on the whole.

When I (think) I had covid in March 2020 I had a really achy right hip as part of my symptoms. Had the same when I had the vaccine (and other side effects). No hip issues or pain at any other time in my life!

Abraxan · 20/03/2021 11:41

I had covid in October. I was in hospital and off work ill for u weeks. I have on going health issues since having had covid. My GP also has me listed as having long covid now too.

I had the Pfizer vaccine in February with minimal side effects - sore arm at jab site, a painful under arm gland for a few days and a bit of a headache the next day.
