Covid hair loss

Anyone else?

I had covid before Christmas. I am now losing my hair like its going out of fashion. It's starting to worry me.

2 weeks ago, I had waist length thick curly hair. Now it's so thin, I've cut it to shoulder length as it looked so awful.

And it's still falling out.

I'm not overly vain, but am getting increasingly concerned that it will all fall out before new growth comes through. If, indeed it does. Google hadn't helped there....

Any positive experiences to help me through?

Hi OP - I am facing the same at the moment and know how low it can make you feel Flowers. I think a big worry is not knowing when it will stop.

However, it isn't unusual to lose hair a few months (I think they often say three) after a bad illness, particularly one that involved a fever. I had the same after a bout of flu as a teenager - I do remember it got very thin to the point I was worried about losing all of it. But by the time a hospital appointment to look into it came through, it had finally stopped. That must have been after a few months. So if it's a direct result of being ill at Christmas it should stop and come back sooner rather than later. All fingers crossed and take care meanwhile.

I was really ill this time last year and was losing hair continuously. Especially noticeable in hair brush and plug hole. Am in my sixties so also an age thing? However I've noticed in the last few weeks loss has slowed and I'm getting new growth, I can see it sticking out.

I have exactly the same. Very mild covid in Devember. Severe hair loss started in Feb21. Clumps and shedding. This week has been the absolute worst. Non stop shedding and hair just dangles from the ends.

Joined a fb group called telegon effluvium-evidence based support group.

Looks like this is normal.

They think covid TE is very fast and furious shedding and a quicker recovery too.

@curious100

Thanjs for that, I'll have a look.

I've moved on to hats and scarves now. It's really hacking at my confidence levels.

I am so glad to have found this thread. Was in tears this morning over the amount of hair I have lost. Had Covid at Christmas and the last month has been the pits with hair just coming out in handfuls. Was always my pride and joy even going through the growing out of my colour and turning white but now it is straggly and looks awful.

Yes this happened to me 2 months after catching corona. I recall it lasting only a few weeks & it's looking much better another 2 months later.

Bumping this in case anyone has seen any improvement? I had covid in January (very mild for about a week, but weird symptoms and tiredness lasting until recently) I now have loads of breakage/thinning around my hairline. I keep reading it is only temporary and very common after covid, but I am just so scared it will keep getting worse.
