I've got my jab tomorrow but just read some people have been refused it if they're breastfeeding. I've looked and rcog says its fine to have. Anyone been turned away cos of bf?

I’d be amazed if they ask you. It’s definitely fine for breastfeeding women. The official guide to healthcare professionals on giving the vaccine says “ here is no known risk associated with giving non-live vaccines whilst breastfeeding. JCVI advises that breastfeeding women may be offered vaccination with the Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.”

see page 14 here

I wasn’t even asked

ChemMouse · 18/03/2021 19:55

I wasn't asked either. They did ask if I was pregnant though!

I was asked, twice!

They shouldn’t refuse it if you want it really.

waitingforsun · 18/03/2021 22:28

I wasn't asked. Was asked if I was pregnant or likely to become pregnant.

HighlandMam1 · 18/03/2021 22:38

I was asked and the gp giving me my vaccine (Oxford) quickly checked the latest guidance for breastfeeding women and said it was fine. I was very poorly for the first 48hrs afterwards but I do wonder if it was because I was a bit run down due to two nights of cluster feedings prior to receiving it.

PlinkPlink · 18/03/2021 22:39

I asked them as I bf my 9mo.

I had AZ.

Yep all fine. I felt like I'd been hit by a truck for a day but all good aside from that.

ohcarolina2001 · 18/03/2021 22:39

I was asked. I confess I lied and said I wasn’t breastfeeding when I am as I was terrified they wouldn’t give it to me! In fact studies from Israel are giving an early indication that covid antibodies might be passed to baby through breastfeeding, although it’s not clear how long baby retains these for

PeigiSu · 18/03/2021 22:56

A lot of those stories now are probably from the early days when they were giving confusing messages.

The approval positions have now been updated and it can now be given in breastfeeding on the same universal prescription as everyone else. It can also be given in pregnancy but needs evidence of discussion re risks benefits and a separate type of prescription.

I’ve had both doses whilst breastfeeding.

ohcarolina2001 · 18/03/2021 23:03

Interesting PeigiSu as I had my first vaccine dose and am trying for a baby and am nervous that if I get pregnant I either might not be called up for my second dose or might be refused it.

MRex · 19/03/2021 07:14

I was asked if I was pregnant, but wasn't asked if I was breastfeeding.

Geordiebabe85 · 19/03/2021 10:00

Thanks everyone. Had the jab and I wasn't even asked!
