Vaccine reactions

I have my covid vaccine booked for Saturday and the closer it gets to it the more anxious I get, I have severe anxiety and was never anxious about it until I seen an old friend of mine post a good while back that she had a reaction to it.
Just a small reaction where her heart started racing etc and said (don’t know how true this is) that it was linked to a penicillin allergy.
This has never left my mind as

  1. I am allergic to penicillin I don’t think I am massively allergic to it I once came out in a full body rash when I was really young and have never been prescribed it again.
2. I am very aware of my heart rate at all times being anxious it’s part of my anxiety that I can not control.
  1. I have not done any research into the penicillin claims because googling things makes me worse and send me into a rabbit hole I can’t get out of for hours

So I was wondering did anyone have this reaction or have an experience with the vaccine that has a penicillin allergy?? I think I just need reassurance to be honest because already being generally anxious I don’t want to be going in there for a tiny scratch shaking like a leaf

I had the jab yesterday evening and I’ve been in bed all day today, shaking, aching nausea and vomiting (

I did have a fairly bad dose of Covid that started a year ago tomorrow and I still have total absence of smell and taste.

I’m starting to come round but I still feel very unwell.

Both Macron and Johnson ought to go to ground this weekend. Both have had the AZ jab today and it's highly likely they will become ill too having also had Covid. Not the best PR if that gets out.
I hope you get better soon Tempnamelady. It took 48 hours for me to get rid of flu- like symptoms but then I have not had Covid.

SpringisSpinning · 19/03/2021 19:25

For those who have been ill with the vaccine, do you feel assured that it is just the vaccine.

I still can't understand why If it's dead or provokes such a response?
Op I'm also very nervous about becoming ill but I do think knowing it's the vaccine will help..

I have had covid last year, in the spring. I was tested and confirmed. I had the AstraZeneca vaccine 5 or 6 weeks ago. Felt headachy and fatigued on days 2 and 3 (with vaccination day being day 1) , then I've been fine ever since.

Cookerhood · 19/03/2021 21:41

What do you mean about it being dead? The AZ vaccine isn't a dead virus. It's a viral vector (chimpanzee adenovirus) that tricks your cells into making spike protein. Your body recognises these as foreign & so mounts an immune response. Some people's immune systems react more violently than others, that's all.

@Tempnamelady I hope you feel better soon

I am not as fussed about being poorly after saying that I would like to be like my DM who just got a sore arm, I am definitely more frightened of having a reaction there and then to the actual injection and I will be honest it’s only because of that one persons experience because I know a good few people who have already had it and were absolutely fine so I know I am not being rational but I always have to think of worse case scenario for some silly reason.

Well it’s jab day and appointment is 3:10pm so will update after and I will probably be saying I was absolutely fine and how silly I was being

Good luck @Cookiesandscones, you'll be in safe hands. Remember half the rest of the queue are feeling nervous too.

Cookiesandscones · 20/03/2021 17:22

It was absolutely fine no reactions my rational brain knew I would be fine but my irrational brain was saying it wasn’t so I kept flip flopping thinking omg to stop being silly you can see all these people walking out.

I have a bit of a sore arm already but I would say that’s about it for now

Thank you everyone for your replies it stopped me from being a crazy manic today

Good to hear, well done.

Tempnamelady · 20/03/2021 19:25

I’m sorry what I should have said is that despite me having an unpleasant reaction to it, I would one hundred percent have it done again ! I’m starting to come round bit of a sore throat but hopefully tomorrow will see an end to it .
