Very brief symptoms...anyone had this and turned out to be covid?

Went out yesterday morning feeling fine...had a long walk, got a takeaway coffee and cake and came home.

About an hour after getting home I had a single bout of bad diarrhoea, followed by a spike in temp. I had the slight chills so took my temp and it was 38.5. I didn't take anything for it as I didn't feel that bad and wanted to monitor it....I had no further symptoms and two hours later my temp was normal.

I feel fine but I'm getting a covid test this morning. Has anyone had these short lived symptoms and it was covid? Or is it possible for an upset stomach to cause a spike in temp?

I'm going to say that might have been Covid, and you got away with a very short episode. Developing symptoms about an hour after eating seems too quick for it to be the cake, unless there was something else you ate earlier that could have caused it.

You may not test positive as you've not had any respiratory symptoms.

Just sounds like you had an upset stomach. Why would you think it was Covid?

yearinyearout · 16/03/2021 07:27

Yes it probably was too quick to be the cake. Had a roast dinner Sunday but so did the rest of the house and nobody's been ill.

I know loads of people say on here "I can't have covid, I don't go anywhere apart from tesco!" but I'd genuinely be surprised if I'd picked it up. The whole household of 3 works from home, we only go on dog walks and I whizz round tesco avoiding people once a week. Our local area has pretty low infection rate as well. We will see.

@XiCi just the sudden temperature spike really, I've never had a temperature with an upset stomach and I know diarrhoea is quite a common covid symptom.

I had this on Sunday and the Zoe app told me to take a test which I’m doing today.

Those were my symptoms but they lasted a couple of days not hours

SunsetGirl · 16/03/2021 07:45

I woke up with a weird temperature spike + a banging headache a couple of weeks ago. The temperature was gone in 20 minutes. Negative test. (But it's still good to test!)

yearinyearout · 16/03/2021 07:47

@hamstersarse yes if a temperature lasted a couple of days I wouldn't even doubt it, I've just never had such a short lived "illness" that's disappeared as quickly as it arrived, especially without taking any paracetamol. Oh well, the test will tell.
