Does your GP get notified if you have the vaccine elsewhere?

I had the jab through work (NHS) and I'm wondering if my GP will have been notified so that they take me off the list? I know they don't with the flu jab as I still get an invite from them even if I've already had it, but I'm curious if they will be told about the Covid jab. I would be group 6 due to BMI (well the BMI they have on record anyway, my actual BMI is much lower and wouldn't make me group 6) and haven't heard anything yet so just wondering.

Yes, they should be notified that you had the Covid vaccine. They should also be notified that you had the flu jab. If you get invited for the flu jab, it means the surgery hasn’t updated your details.

My GP was not notified and called me up after I had it done through work

Gingernaut · 15/03/2021 19:12

The GP will have notification, as your vaccination will have been recorded against you NHS Number.

Wigeon · 15/03/2021 19:14

Yes, your patient record should have been updated within 48 hours of you getting the jab through work, so they shouldn’t invite you through your GP.

mrsed1987 · 15/03/2021 19:15

Mine has. I checked my gp records last night after having my 2nd jab (also elsewhere due to work) and its on there.

I've just had a text from the NHS about booking my vaccine - I had it in January and have my follow up booked.

You know you aren’t supposed to look at your own records whilst (presumably) working, don’t you?
ChequerBoard · 15/03/2021 19:20

Eventually, but I wouldn't hold your breath. the systems are nowhere near as joined up as people seem to think.

Yes the vaccination is recorded against your NHS number so there is a record that you have had and which one, which batch number etc but this is being recorded in one of a few separate systems at present. The data will flow through to GP systems at some point in the near future.

So you are highly likely to get reminders from your GP if you have already been vaccinated or booked an appointment at a vaccination hub.

Donatella · 15/03/2021 19:21

Interesting you say that about the flu jab, as I'm pretty sure they've never asked for my NHS number for that so not sure they would be able to notify my GP - I wonder if different areas do it differently?

Are they notified? Yes in our case. Do they act upon the notification? No, DP still got called up by the GP as well.

rhombuspocahontas · 15/03/2021 19:26

@Haiyaa I can access my records online through my GP and I don't work in the NHS. Perhaps OP can do the same?

Cornettoninja · 15/03/2021 19:27

@Haiyaa more and more GP’s are set up so patients can access their records online. That poster hasn’t necessarily accessed anything in a work environment.

My GP offers it too but I haven’t gotten around to setting it up yet.

Yes, your first paragraph rings true for me! I'll be at my surgery tomorrow for work (don't work for them but do sometimes work in the same building) so if the receptionists aren't too busy I might ask them to check

Haiyaa GP records (to varied a restricted level) are accessible via PatientAccess for you to look at if you have signed up for this online service. Nothing to do with looking up medical records while at work. My vaccination was recorded from an external vaccination hub within 24 hours of my having it.

mouse70 · 15/03/2021 19:33

Sorry looks like others responded more quickly than me!!!!!

RickiTarr · 15/03/2021 19:36

Yep. I didn’t have mine through my GP surgery but I can see it on my records summary when I log into my GP surgery intranet whatever-it’s-called. It’s the most recent entry.

Carriemac · 15/03/2021 19:38

I had a smear at my GP about 10 days after my vaccine at work and the nurse said 'I see you've been vaccinated" so it was on my records v quickly. I also work under a different name to the one registered at my GP but its the same nhs number.

Haiyaa · 15/03/2021 19:39

Oh you checked your SCR, I thought you meant your full record.

Bluetrews25 · 15/03/2021 19:54

I had mine at work in Jan, and have just checked the immunisation section on my patient access account. It has been added.

MaudesMum · 15/03/2021 19:57

I've got the NHS app on my phone (the one with details of medications/appointments etc). I booked my appointment online in a hub, and it took 4 days to turn up on the app. And no one from my surgery therefore chased me for a vaccination, which presumably means they've got a teeny bit more time to chase other people who haven't booked.

PleaseStopExplaining · 15/03/2021 20:08

I had the jab late Thursday afternoon at a hub. I just logged into patient access earlier to request a repeat and I can see my covid vaccine under the medical record bit on their.

Boph · 15/03/2021 22:32

DS had his at work, a hospital and the GP called him a couple of weeks later, it didn't seem to show up. I can see mine on my patient records.
I thought he should query it as in future he may want proof for a vaccine passport.
