Are children being offered the vaccine?

I received an invite for the vaccination (I'm 29 with no health issues) but at the same time they have also invited my 2 year old Dd. I didn't think they were offering it to children yet? I'm wondering if there has been a mistake

I imagine it's a mistake. One is only suitable for 16+ and the other 18+. Wonder if they have mistyped her date of birth

pickedonions · 14/03/2021 21:00

Yes that's what I thought, it must be a mistake. I'll contact GP tomorrow

Definitely a mistake.

AstraZeneca is only licensed for 18+ and Pfizer for 16+.

I wonder how old they think she is Confused. Has she been called for her childhood vaccines on time?

Wigeon · 14/03/2021 21:20

It’s definitely a mistake. No current plans to offer the vaccine to 2 year olds! Definitely ring your surgery.

pickedonions · 14/03/2021 21:24

Yes she has had all other vaccinations, I wonder if they are mixing up with DH? I don't know it's a bit strange but I'll definitely ring them tomorrow.

Mistake. It's not licenced for children yet.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 14/03/2021 22:06

Mistake.

A small number of children have been offered the vaccine but only those where they have very severe health issues such that if they were to get the virus then it would be likely to cause them severe harm. In those cases their doctors (and these will be children whose parents will be on first name terms with an entire team of doctors) may make the decision the the risk of having a vaccine that is untested on children is less than the risk of getting the virus.

I’d say they’d made a mistake inviting both of you - 29 and no health issues shouldn’t be called yet

WanderingFruitWonderer · 15/03/2021 04:58

Lots of mistakes have been made with people being called to group 6 by mistake. Some computer algorithm or code or something. So it'll either be that, or a fraudulent spam text. There have been a few of those going around. If I were you, I'd ring my GP surgery asap to flag it up...

garlictwist · 15/03/2021 05:26

Yes I'd say they've made a mistake inviting you as well as they are not done with the old people yet.

Obviously just speculation and I've no way of knowing but gestational diabetes is group 6 and the op has a two year old? So not entirely impossible
EasterIssland · 15/03/2021 08:45

In some areas younger people are being called as well (18+ I mean) so id not say it’s a mistake yourself

Az is doing tests for 6-17 I believe and so is doing pfizer. But kids in general won’t get vaccinated til new year

minniemoocher · 15/03/2021 10:35

Not for 2 year olds but specialists can vaccinate older children if they believe they are particularly vulnerable. AZ is being used for 16-18 year olds who have underlying health conditions and there were two 14 year olds at the clinic

pickedonions · 16/03/2021 07:52

Just to update, I called GP and it was a mistake. I should definitely not have had the text regarding dd and I'm not even due mine yet. Apparently they had a few calls from people who had received the text but shouldn't have
