Breastfed baby after jab

Hi

I had my first jab yesterday afternoon and was reassured by the doctors, along with the BFN, that there have been no negative side effects attributed to the breast milk of those that have the vaccine. However my 6 week old was very fussy last night (I know he’s a newborn but very out of character) and today has had diarrhoea.

Has anybody else experienced similar? Fully expect it is just one of those things but interested to hear others experiences

If be really interested to hear from others too. I had the AstraZeneca today and I’m breastfeeding... my son is only 2 weeks and 1 day old so I’m feeling quite nervous about it all, despite the reassurance from doctors and various trusted/ evidence based sources.

Hopefully others will be able to share their experiences as time goes on x

My baby is older (10mo when I had the jab) but breastfeeds frequently day and night and I didn’t notice any difference in her at all

Yes, my son is now a month old and we haven’t noticed anything worrying

Missypuff30 · 02/04/2021 20:11

My daughter is a lot older at 19 months, but does feed during the day and night. I noticed no difference, so I suspect it's just a coincidence.

If baby is 6 weeks and BF only surely all poop looks like diarrhoea?!

bookishtartlet · 02/04/2021 20:43

My daughter was 9 weeks when I got mine and definitely had way more dirty nappies and was very very fussy for 2 days. Again, had repeatedly read there were no side effects for bf babies. However, at least I know she has the benefit of it, and is fine now at 11 weeks.

I have an older toddler. He had a slight cold and took a little longer to get over it than normal. Other than that no difference. 17 days post vaccination now, so not expecting anything else. I'm hopeful that he has some antibodies now too though.

A month tomorrow since I had the first vaccine (not sure why this thread was resurrected!) and happy to report that my now 9 week old is perfectly fine as is my milk supply. He did have an upset tummy and nappies that resembled mushy peas rather than chip shop curry (🤢) for a few days post jab but I’m going to put this down to coincidence, even if nobody else in the house had a similar tummy bug.

I had my first vaccine when my baby was 2wks old. She's now 8wks old and had zero side effects.

FakeFruitShoot · 02/04/2021 21:08

I wonder if you leaving him meant you were a bit engorged when you next got chance to feed, so the milk came quickly? This can cause greenish or explosive poo but if it's a one off and you're otherwise happy he's well it's nothing to worry about

Hyppogriff · 02/04/2021 21:11

I had my first AZ jab with 6 month old who was only feeding before bed and any night feeds. Didn’t notice anything different.

SerendipityJane · 02/04/2021 21:34

Any chances they're sensing something in your behaviour ?

MRex · 03/04/2021 19:38

I have a much older toddler, he's never had a splatty nappy from behaviour. Alarming bright green when I tried some probiotics, equally alarming maroon when I had a lot of beetroot, mucous-y when he had norovirus. Mushy peas sounds almost within the realm of normal to be honest.
