People over 70 shouldn't go on cruises!

6 weeks later 30,000 were dead.

"We're not closing the schools."

How long was it before they had to? A week?

Something like that. I know I removed dd around the same time as Ireland because I talked to relatives over there who couldn’t believe there were no plans to do similar here.

Watching this back is breathtaking.

"Although most older people will experience a mild to moderate Illness I know many people will be worried..."

Three and a half weeks later Boris Johnson was in hospital with it, himself.

Was the only honest thing he's said. And I wish he had left it at that and done nothing at all else to prevent the deaths, because all we have done is displace the deaths to deaths from cancer, suicide, heart disease, obesity, lower living standards for decades.

I’m a secondary teacher. That week was awful. Guess work. And then it was announced and I said goodbye to my exam classes not knowing what would happen - although most were isolating. I got home to find my cat ill (kidney failure). I remember taking him to the vets, overhearing people saying ‘Boris has said all pubs must close tonight’, and me just weeping in a corner with the stress of it all.
MsBo · 13/03/2021 17:40

It was such a stressful, worrying time. I was doing a week teaching in a primary school and watching the death numbers creeping up just as they had in Italy and feeling completely at risk and worried. I pulled my kids out of school a week early, along with many others. My husband's office shut and they moved to home working then too. It seemed crazy that they were predicting offices to stay shut until January 2021 at one point...but here he is still working from home in March!

So many trolls post this dumb claim.

Lockdown didn't stop the NHS from treating cancer patients.
The VIRUS did!

No lockdown = more people sick with the virus = fewer NHS resources for everything else.

It really is quite simple, even a person with just two operational braincells can figure THAT out.

helpfulperson · 13/03/2021 18:04

Yes there are people who have died because of cancer, suicide etc but that is nothing to the numbers who would have died if we hadn't locked down. We would have been talking multiples of those who have and cancer treatments etc would have stopped due to the reduction in available staff in the NHS anyway.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/03/2021 20:14

@Armi: (to a pp joking about pissing on Boris) "Why do people have to talk like this about other people? I dislike Boris intensely, but I find the level of public discourse these days truly reprehensible. I suppose I was brought up to be polite, and that just doesn’t matter as much any more."

Also @Armi: "Just wear a fucking mask. There’s no need to make a massive bloody political and ideological screeching opera out of it - put a fucking mask (or scarf, bandanna whatever) on for the relatively few minutes you are in an enclosed space with other people to reduce the chance that they will become desperately ill. Stop bleating about yourself and your precious foibles and the outrages being committed against you because you have been asked to cover part of your face for a short period of time and think about other people. Just bloody do it. Christ alive, you people piss me off."

Just saying Grin
