@WombatChocolate

Remember there are 2 booking systems....lots of people don’t realise this.

There is the national booking system. People can book without a direct invite if they meet the criteria of eligibility. This give people appointments at the bigger centres usually. Letters eventually arrive to invite people for these appointments and they are just about to start using a text direct invitation system too, but letters will also follow as not everyone has a mobile or the NHS doesn’t have everyone’s number.

And then there is a separate GP led system. They mostly text people now with a link to a DIFFERENT booking system which mostly offers localised services.

When people get a text, so far it has been via the GP service. And all these are running at their own rates determined by the age demographic of their area and local supply issues. That’s why there is a difference in most cases.

When people can book on the national system at a year or two younger than the front page shows, it’s often that the system is currently being updated but I takes a couple of days...so gradually more and more can access it. Once all added, they update the front page.

So on this thread, some people are talking about the national booking system and some about GP led services....and you can’t always tell which is which.

Thank you for the explanation! Don't you need a letter for the national system though.how does this fit in?

Lewisham, SE London booking 53+

WombatChocolate · 12/03/2021 14:07

Sleep, have you looked at the national booking system website? The front page lists who is eligible to book and clearly states if you meet the criteria you can book.

When groups become eligible, the system generates letters and they are sent out in batches, so you will get a letter but it might not come for 10 days after you can access the booking site.

You do not need a letter when you arrive for your vaccine as evidence. When you book you get a confirmation number and you might be asked for that, but often just your name and you will be ticked off their electronic list.

Keep looking at the national booking site and book as soon as your category is mentioned there....no need to wait.

problembottom · 15/03/2021 19:42

DP is 51, no underlying health conds and he got a text from his GP on Saturday saying he could book. Vaccinated at 8.30am yesterday! Very impressed. We’re in south Manchester.

oldsoulrebel · 15/03/2021 20:04

53 in essex , just booked

mommybunny · 15/03/2021 20:17

Kept at it and finally got my appointment! 53 in South West Surrey. This Saturday, which means I should have Sunday to recover if I need it.

Only thing I am concerned about is that I have a mammogram scheduled for three days later. I’ve heard the vaccine can enlarge your lymph nodes which can give a misleading result on a mammogram. Does anyone know if I should postpone one or the other?

Furball · 15/03/2021 20:42

I'm 54 1/2! so have had my eye on the site for a while - those that have booked - have they assumed that you meet the criteria? ie you are a carer or a disability?

Has anyone tried to book on that website and not been able to ?

titchy · 15/03/2021 20:52

Just booked mine too (wouldn't let me this morning but now does) - 52 in Surrey.

Pepermintea · 15/03/2021 21:15

@Furball I have just looked and can book for DH who is 54 and a few days ago it said not eligible yet. You have to put in NHS number, dob and postcode, so they know if it's ok in your area. I'm 50 and it wouldn't let me book for me yet!

Furball · 15/03/2021 21:21

@pepermintea - thats really helpful - thank you

Boulshired · 15/03/2021 21:27

From Twitter Hugo Gye
Looks likely that everyone over 50 will be invited to book a jab by the end of this week. Expect perhaps 4-5m doses to be administered, taking UK past the threshold of reaching half of all adults. Full story @theipaper:

There are no criteria for the national booking site if you are booking based on age, literally just your DOB and how far down they are in your area
LimitIsUp · 15/03/2021 22:19
