Group 6 and morbid obesity?

Does anyone know how this works with being called for vaccination when your doctors don’t actually know you are morbidly obese?

I’ve rang my doctors today to ask and have been told to wait to be called and that I am not listed as group 6 so will have to wait. I explained that I know I won’t be listed as in group 6 as the doctor won’t know I’m morbidly obese as they haven’t weighed me for years and I need to find out how to make sure the doctor knows I’m morbidly obese so I do get listed as group 6. I was then told they can’t tell how long I’ll wait and to wait to be called (ie they completely ignored my question about how the doctor will know). I asked if they could please clarify how the doctor will know to call me due to morbid obesity if they don’t know I’m morbidly obese? They said again to wait to be called in for the vaccination and that I’m not down as group 6. This went on about four or five times before they put me into the practise manager who repeated it to me twice before I asked if I needed to make an appointment to be weighed so that the surgery will know I am morbidly obese and therefore group 6. She then asked me to ring back and make an appointment with the nurse so the nurse can apparently explain to me about having to wait til I’m called and that I’m not currently in group 6. I gave up at that point.

I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. I’m eligible for the vaccine due to morbid obesity but I have to wait to be called in for the vaccine. I won’t be called as part of group six because the doctors don’t know I’m morbidly obese. I try to arrange to let the doctor know and I’m told to wait to be called in. Which I won’t be. Because they don’t know I’m morbidly obese.

Can anyone clarify what I’m supposed to do here? How do I get the doctors surgery aware that while they don’t have me down as group six, if they had my updated weight info they would do, but they won’t take my updated weight info?

I’ve seen this before. Doctors surgery won’t take your word for it so need to be weighed at the doctors - but let’s face it getting an appointment is hard. Be persistent and try and book an app.

You should have accepted the appointment with the nurse (assuming it was a face to face appointment) so you could be weighed there and then...

I'm surprised you've waited this long tbh.

As soon as the list of those who would be in group 6 was released, I phoned the GP and made an appointment to get me weight updated on their records.

They wouldn't take my word for it I had to go in. Fair enough.

Was vaccinated last month

GPs may have advised their staff not to take anymore calls from people asking to be placed in group 6 by now.

Your best bet is to stop mentioning the vaccine when you ring up. Get the appointment with the nurse as suggested who will weigh you, and hopefully that will alter your code on the GP records and you will get called foe the vaccine.

I had the same issue being a carer. Took surgery 3 weeks to code it correctly.

I am morbidly obese and my GP will not have this down. I'm just going to wait as I'm early fifties so hopefully will be called up soon.
