Is the Covid vaccine less effective if you’re fat...?

I have a high BMI and so I’m getting my Covid vaccine on Friday.

Will it be less effective because of my size?

How effective is it after just one dose?

Possibly.

There is some emerging evidence to show that obese people produce less antibodies but there is variation bw individuals as well - so if you are naturally a person whose immune system is turned to throw out a lot of antibodies then you might produce more than a person with a lower BMI whose system is turned to produce less.

Dont forget also, it's not just about antibodies - you also have t cells that can be trained to recognize COVID by the vaccine. So, fi, I've had COVID twice now and it's been found that I barely make antibodies at all. But my second bout was much milder as I have developed a strong t cell response to the virus.

In terms of effectiveness after 1 dose, I believe it's about 54% for the AZ jab and a little more for the Pfizer.

It was not as effective but it still provided enough protection to protect you. The headlines were misleading.
