group 6 - when will I get my vaccine?

pleasevaccinateme · 09/03/2021 11:30

I've not had an invite from my GP, and heard they haven't started on local group 6 yet Sad Its difficult to see over 55s being able to book online when I can't. I know that's selfish of me, I know I'm not special, I know millions of others are waiting too, I know I'm lucky to be in the UK where vaccine rollout going well.
But I'm 46, and terrified now my children are back in school. I'm trying my best to hold on, but its so hard when I don't know how long I am holding on for.

Call the surgery and ask.

ComDummings · 09/03/2021 11:34

Try the nhs online booking system. I’ve not heard a peep from my GP but I was able to book online. My DH put his details in (I was anxious that it let me book it so I wanted to check if he could too as he is not group 6 so won’t be eligible for a while) and it did not allow him to book. So if you can book on there you’re eligible. You need your NHS number which should be on a prescription. Or call the COVID line, I think it’s 119.

80sMum · 09/03/2021 11:38

If you're eligible, which it seems you are, just book online. That's what I've done. I haven't been invited by my GP but I'm eligible because I'm over 60.

It depends where you live. There's a vaccine queue calculator which is giving rough estimates based on your age and location but it's generalised across England, Scotland, Wales and NI so no accounting for regional variations as some seem to be progressing better than others. It's forecasting 4-6 weeks later in Scotland compared to England.
If you ring your GP practice they will most likely say they don't know, it's out of their control, or even have a recorded message before they answer asking you not to contact them regarding appointments!

I can't book online: I try every couple of days.

Do you have any underlying health conditions? If not 40-49 year olds are group 10. We are in this group and we want a vaccine of course but we will just have to wait.

Hopefully it won't be too long after Easter holidays.

emmathedilemma · 09/03/2021 11:46

You can check vaccination rates for your local area on here

lurker101 · 09/03/2021 11:47

Have you tried clearing your cache/browsing in private/incognito mode when checking to book online? The link on NHS site says people with diabetes etc. Can now book online for mass vaccination sites. I think that’s group 6.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 09/03/2021 11:53

Group 6 are now eligible to book online at the mass vaccination hubs but I think it might only accept you if your GP has given them your details. DH managed to book a week ago, and only received the text from the GP yesterday. But the site is all booked up so he's not getting his vaccine till next week anyway.

pleasevaccinateme · 09/03/2021 12:06

@frozendaisy yes I am group 6, which means I am CV

@lurker101 yes thank you, I keep clearing cookies/cache after reading that suggestion on mumsnet!

Thanks everyone I feel so very hopeless and scared today and has helped to have your replies

OP posts:
ComDummings · 09/03/2021 12:18

Don’t feel hopeless, I totally understand how you feel though! Could you call your GP and ask if you’re correctly flagged as group 6? Or call 119 for advice.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 09/03/2021 12:23

Have you checked to see if your GP surgery has a Facebook page?

Ours has no updates on their website it's all on the Facebook page. They posted an announcement when they were going to invite group 6

HSHorror · 09/03/2021 12:34

What group 6 illness.
As say asthma is really specific.
Possibly your records are not putting you in group 6. (Mine dont seem to have my previous asthma hospitalisation on

pleasevaccinateme · 09/03/2021 12:39

@ComDummings GP reception says I am correctly flagged, 119 says to keep trying as I should be eligible Confused

@Iremember they have absolutely no social media, no. I know receptionists are annoyed at being phoned about the vaccine, I get they are busy and feel the phonecalls waste their time, but honestly if they just put regular updates on their website, they wouldn't get so many calls! (I've only called once about the vaccine all year, so hardly making a nuisance of myself)

Thanks everyone, really: I just can't keep on top of the panic today, and you have all helped by bothering to talk with me

If it helps I'm in the same boat.

LemonTT · 09/03/2021 12:46

Depending on where you live contact the CCg or health board.

Individual GP practices only do a small number of vaccinations under special arrangement. The majority are done in hubs. They all started cohort 6 in mid February and are nearing completion of the first pass of the list.

It would be very very surprising that one hadn’t started it yet. If that was the case NHSE would expect them to do something about it pdq. There’s no way this would be ongoing.

Contact the CCG or health board and ask them to arrange something for you. They will do it.

Icytundra · 09/03/2021 12:48

The clinical lead for diabetes in England Tweeted recently that all g6 could book online I believe. Is it worth double checking your surgery have you coded as g6?

CxHB · 09/03/2021 12:55

Oh and when I spoke to mine last week they also hadn't started on group 6. I wonder if we're neighbours...

I think it's just a case of being patient, which is difficult but many people are in the same position. Be cheered by the fact that they do seem to be rattling through the list. 👍

pleasevaccinateme · 09/03/2021 13:04

So, if group 6 is eligible, I'm group 6, GP confirms I'm flagged as group 6, but I'm showing on the NHS booking system as 'ineligible', and my GP doesn't seem to be doing any group 6 vaccinations .... who the hell is actually the right person to ask for help? Do I go back and bother the GP receptionist (who says there's nothing she can do), or .... who? 119 say they don't have access to anything other than the public booking website and direct me back to GP.

@LemonTT can i ask what a ccg is and who I should ask for?

She's not eligible though *@80sMum* she's 46!
Did you miss the group 6 part? I'm 30 I was still eligible
CxHB · 09/03/2021 13:15

It's Clinical commissioning group OP. I spoke to mine on twitter last week though and was directed back to the GP. It's like a cycle of doom. On the plus side I'm pretty sure I've memorised my NHS number at this point.
