Shortness of breath but no other symptoms

As the title says, really. Has anyone had shortness of breath but no other symptoms and it turned out to be covid?

For the past week I’ve been feeling like my breathing is compromised - I can’t breathe in deeply enough, it feels like my lungs can only inflate so far and I’m not getting in enough air. Chest is tight when I inhale and there’s a slight ache.

No other symptoms whatsoever - but I did quit smoking 3 weeks ago. I wasn’t that heavy a smoker but I know that doesn’t really make a difference, it’s still damaging. Other ex-smoker friends said they felt crap after quitting before getting better but I’ve never felt this breathless before, it’s worse than when I smoked! I’m 31 for ref.

Ordered a covid test and hoping it’s that tbh, rather than long term lung damage

I did a test at home and got the result within 15 hours of posting the test back. Do the test and you will know. the hardest part of the test was building the box to return it, I am no good at Origami

@Paul72 - this made me LOL 😂 so true!

Hope you are OK OP. It’s probably linked to the smoking but better to test & check!

Yes exactly the same. Was covid. The fatigue came later. Never has temp or cough. Lost taste after a fortnight

The origami thing is so true 😂 I’ve done a test before when I did have a cough (negative). I know I’m a twat for smoking and if I’ve given myself lung cancer I’ve only got myself to blame but it’s weird that it came on quite suddenly about 2.5 weeks after I quit

You can get horrible symptoms for a while after quitting smoking - you can feel worse before you feel better. Happened to me when I quit 15-odd years ago.

I had this last March. Whatever it was finished my lungs off. Up until that point I was an extremely well controlled asthmatic.
Looking back we had contact with someone who was then admitted to icu with pneumonia.....

The breathlessness was so bad I couldn't climb the stairs. And it went on for months. I would sleep with the window open just to get air. Even now I need good air quality. Non of my children got sick with it when normally they catch whatever colds are doing the rounds.

My BIL only had shortness of breath, but he does have mild asthma. The first day we actually thought it was his asthma but LFT at work confirmed otherwise. He had it mild though, his wife still has ongoing problems and his DD felt awful.

Do you have or know someone who has an oximeter? So you can check your oxygen levels - if it is covid snd below a certain level you would need to be seen by medics

I’ve ordered one. Chest is starting to hurt a bit now. I never felt this bad when I smoked ffs! Not going to start again, I’m just anxious not knowing what the cause is

I hope you feel better soon, whatever's going on. I was never tested as March last year but my symptoms started with with shortness of breath. I thought it was hayfever doing a number on my asthma. The following day, I started getting chest pains, high temperature, red eyes, fatigue and dizziness. No cough at any point. The shortness of breath and fatigue took about 3 months to resolve. It varies so much. Take care

Probablyinpain · 08/11/2021 23:01

I know this is an old post but did you ever find the cause of this out. I'm 2.5 weeks into quitting and I'm so breathless and tight chested! @TedMullins
