Private school lateral flow tests

So private schools will be obtaining the free lateral flow tests provided by the government. Bearing in mind everything else is paid for in private schools including exam entries, parents know this when they sign up, why are they receiving free tests? In fact, why aren't pupils tested properly once a week (as happens in many workplaces) and funded by the parents? Could someone answer this. I work in a state school and already we are hearing of a shortage of tests for all staff, it just makes me angry that the big independent up the road has all the resources but aren't dipping into their pockets. Bearing in mind they claimed furlough for most support staff (fees were only reduced a fraction) and are no doubt in a better off position than they were.

The government are giving LFT without charge to private businesses where they have recommended/ mandated that they are done e.g. care homes, pharmacies, GP surgeries, private schools . If a business decides to implement them themselves they pay.

Apandemicyousay · 04/03/2021 21:01

WTF. Do you think carers in private care homes should be paying too? You know, they’re businesses too right?

Longdistance · 04/03/2021 21:15

Utter bollocks! I work in the private sector and we had the LFT delivered today. this is just another bashing of private eduction.

Devlesko · 04/03/2021 21:17

Gosh, wait until the OP finds out that gov pay for some dc to attend private school. Grin

LynetteScavo · 04/03/2021 21:20

Because Covid 19 doesn't know if you work in a independent school or a state school.

People who work in independent schools, and the pupils, get free NHS care.

COVID-19 Tests are about health, not education.

snowcobra · 04/03/2021 21:22

Because it's a national health issue. Bitterness doesn't suit you, OP.

Cismyfatarse · 04/03/2021 21:23

So,the cleaners, kitchen staff, teaching assistants and teachers who work there are not important enough to warrant the protection of these tests?

Because they are people too.

greeceiwwhereimdreamingof · 04/03/2021 21:57

as others have said its a public health issue - everyone is entitled to tests FOC as are you, you can surely see there is fairness in the fact that money can't buy you a vaccine earlier and quite rightly. what people fail to realise sometimes is that private schools are taking some of the burden away from the state sector - a bit like private health insurance takes some of the burden off the NHS meaning those that need it can use it quicker.
