If you have an autoimmune condition which vaccine would you prefer?

I have mine booked. I think it will be Moderna or Pfizer but could be J&J as first shipments are arriving here in NYC today, which seems broadly similar to AZ.

I have type 1 diabetes and hypothyroidism and quite frankly don't care in what I get as I just want a vaccine in order to have one less thing to think about and focus on supporting my mum who has cancer.

However, if we were in an ideal world, and you could choose any vaccine you fancy - which would you pick if you had an autoimmune condition already?

@FuzzyPuffling

bagelsandbrie (which has made me hungry) I'm beginning to think that the vaccine kicked off a lupus flare for me too, since I had one day (day 4) where I felt a bit better, before a further 5 days of feeling grotty.

All is well now though and I am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY to be vaccinated!

It could well have done. I’m on a lupus forum on Facebook and lots of us have said the same thing. Glad you are feeling better now Flowers

I have hashimotos and had AZ. Had flu like symptoms but only lasted 24 hours.

I see someone mentioned Raynaud's. I only got diagnosed with hashimotos last year but have had Raynaud's for around 10 years. Are they connected? Didn't think about that.

@Calmingvibrations

I was told any vaccine as long as not a live one.
Are any of them live ?
FuzzyPuffling · 03/03/2021 19:48

None of the current ones are live vaccines.

Raynaud's is certainly a feature of my auto immune picture - lupus and APS.

I have T1 and had Pfizer. Only side effect was a sore arm.

AngeloMysterioso · 03/03/2021 20:00

I’d have hypothyroidism, got the OxAZ one yesterday evening.

I do not feel at all well today.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/03/2021 20:03

I have MS. I didn't care which one I got, as long as I got one. I had the Pfizer as I was done before the Oxford was approved.

AbsentmindedWoman · 03/03/2021 20:09

So, I had Moderna in the end. Started another thread on the off chance any other people who have had might chat about how they're feeling.

Very happy to be done! Arm a wee bit sore if leaned on, so just like flu jab at this point Smile

It's more that if you have an autoimmune disease you are supposed to be more prone to developing others (doesn't mean that you will though)

I have sarcoidosis and I had the Pfizer. I was very glad it was that one

mumwon · 03/05/2021 23:32

all family had AZ
one has eczema no side effects
another asthma (youngest of us) had fluey type reaction
dh has type 2 diabetes & ITP no reaction
I didn't have a reaction either
I am so happy we have all had jab
