Invitation to have covid vaccine cancelled?

I had a text invite two weeks ago due to being group 6. During this time I could log on and there were tonnes of appointments but was unable to attend due to childcare. Lots of the appointments seemed to have not been booked as there were still lots available on the day. On Friday, it showed the same locations available to me but said no appointments available (there was no clinic as it was all on Thursday. I logged in Sunday morning and they had put another clinic on the system, were lots of appointments at my location again for Wednesday, I planned to login again in the afternoon to rebook. However when I looked in the afternoon, it said my invite to book has been cancelled.
Ive spoken to a receptionist at my GP surgery and she said oh it's probably because there's no appointments and you'll get another text link when they are.
There were so many appointments I can't see that they all went that quick and before I could login and see the location but that there were no current appointments so this doesn't seem right to me. It's almost as if they've taken me off the eligibility list? 😬 has anyone else experienced this ?

It would depend on the amount of vaccines as well. You could offer a whole day of slots but as soon as the amount of vaccine is used for that establishment the slots will disappear

BusyLizzie61 · 01/03/2021 13:11

I believe that some of the links have an expiration, eg you have x days available and either make yourself available to the vaccination centres allocated when the appointments are live or potentially miss out.
I know that one person decided to think on it, and cannot now book and they're group 4.
I would assume that the gp could add you on possibly again, but really the jab needs prioritising if you want it. And really the childcare issue shouldn't have taken precedence. The NHS is stretched enough without chasing up those who don't bother booking.

Rillington · 01/03/2021 13:18

The links expire after two weeks from my surgery. Surely you could have booked before then.

Cowmilk · 01/03/2021 13:54

It does look like it is working as a first come first serve basis. They just need to make that clear.

Last week I got a text message saying they have walk in appointment at the nightingale in London for vaccine. It was going to be available from Monday to Sunday. On the Monday they closed early and ran out of vaccine by Tuesday afternoon.

StarCat2020 · 03/03/2021 01:12

The screenshot you have posted states that they will contact you when they have more availability and not to contact them.

Maybe the original invitation should have been more clear that slots were limited due to supply to prevent people getting concerned??

Honestly you would think that the people designing these booking systems would have thought about the patients using them.

bobbiester · 03/03/2021 07:15

So you spent 2 weeks logging on now and then, looking at the available appointments, but not booking anything????

crossstitchingnana · 03/03/2021 07:19

I had an email bringing my second one forward a fortnight. No idea why.

StealthPolarBear · 03/03/2021 07:25

". And really the childcare issue shouldn't have taken precedence."
What should people do with young children if they don't have childcare?

LongTimeMammaBear · 03/03/2021 07:26

Sorry to ask for confirmation, but did you mean book or rebook? Rebook implies you booked an appointment but didn’t go to it.

@StarCat2020

you made me chuckle. There are millions of people desperately waiting, anxious to get their vaccination. It’s been in the news about some clinics closing as supply is moved about the country. Surely it is common sense given just these two issues that appointments will be limited due to dolly.

I’d be jumping at the bit to book my slot as soon as I got a text to book, not waiting two weeks just to book.

Perinono · 03/03/2021 07:30

Why on earth can't you take your children with you? Don't you go anywhere with them? Surely it's just a quick jab or am I missing something?🤔Hmm

Sirzy · 03/03/2021 07:34

I think the issue at the moment will be the amount of people getting ready for their second vaccine so they have to balance the slots to keep both sides going.

Hope you sort it soon, have you tried booking via the goverment website?

ohwaitthatwasme · 03/03/2021 07:39

Ive spoken to a receptionist at my GP surgery

Why did you do this? It tells you, in bold red text on the screenshot not to contact your practice Confused

I didn't think you were allowed to take children in with you to things like this?

And to the PP who said she's meant to prioritise it over childcare - what do you do if you don't have anyone to look after your kids - single parent, no local family/friends? Not everyone can magic up a support network and childcare, if you can, consider yourself lucky and have some sympathy for people not in that situation.

If the past year has taught me anything it is that common sense is not common at all. If anything it is exceedingly uncommon.

jendifer · 03/03/2021 07:54

Isn’t it 119 to call about things like this?

Agree with a previous poster, I thought there was an expiry on the link too.

LongTimeMammaBear · 03/03/2021 09:13

*supply not dolly. Blasted autocorrect
