That's it really.

Brazilian variant found here. Scotland and South Gloucestershire. Just breaking on Sky news.

Is this variant still considered vaccine resistant?

Poo. Sad

I live in South Glos. Our regional Public Health director has said the 2 cases here have been effectively isolated and risk to the community is low. I suspect the risk is being amplified to keep us compliant for the remaining weeks of lockdown.

MaxNormal · 01/03/2021 13:14

likeamillpond viruses don't target anything as such. They just constantly have random mutations and any that give them an advantage are more successful.
This particular virus has now produced very similar variants independently in different parts of the world so its clear by now what sort of mutations are likely in future and vaccines are being tweaked accordingly.

SmallYappyTypeDog · 01/03/2021 13:24

Thats not true @likeamillpond a virus doesn't need to make you sick at all to be successful, let alone kill you. Milder viruses are more successful at replicating as we don't stay at home.

It is not targeting the older generation, undoubtedly more younger people will have been infected as they have mostly still be going out to work and school. It is just the young rarely get sick with it, the same as with many other viruses.

The virus doesn't have a plan or a direction, it doesn't think at all. The only thing it does is replicate and mutate randomly.

Yes for 2 in Sth Gls - however 1 has been "lost" and there is an appeal for him to come forward.

I agree we're being manipulated. They've really lost the trust by failing to tell the truth and "bring us with them".

@Katie517

very convenient timing of the announcement after a weekend of people enjoying the sun and the lowest case and death numbers we have had in a long time... cue the panic, all viruses mutate we are the only country looking so in-depth into new variants no where else seems to care!
Ah....convenient as in...been invented to keep people home longer ....are you suggesting that it is made up for that purpose?

It appears that an individual brought the Brazilian varient into the country, didn't leave contact details and they need to trace individual.....or is that 'convenient' to?

This is how conspiracy theorists start...convenient isn't it....must be made up then.....

@Katie517

Are we the only country looking so deep into variants......where did you get that from....you say 'no one else seems to care why make up rubbish, that isn't true at all.

rawalpindithelabrador · 01/03/2021 13:52

@LApprentiSorcier

... and this is why we need to close our borders.
No, no we don't. And this is not fucking Oz or NZ. If you like them so much, apply for a visa and go there.
EasterIssland · 01/03/2021 13:53

@PicsInRed I believe that was yesterday's news. todays as posted above by me but also by @bathsh3ba is that it's 2 people and both have been localised, one in south Gloucestershire and the other one in bristol. they're doing massive testing from today on in north bristol for this

Denmark and the uk re the 2 countries around the world that investigate more the variants.

Anna12345678910 · 01/03/2021 14:15

I have just checked on the WHO website....lots of countries are researching variants....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2021 14:34

Denmark and the uk re the 2 countries around the world that investigate more the variants.

Which is not the same as saying that other countries aren't. We're the 24th country to have identified cases of the P1 variant.

And we are definitely not the only country caring about variants.

Of course other countries are doing as well but Wales i.e. did the same testing within a week as France in the whole pandemic

PicsInRed · 01/03/2021 17:24

It looks like there is now a question mark over school reopening - if the usual pattern of "prepare us by media story" is being followed.

If so, that would be a terrible mistake.

It's so obvious useful new variant to control the peasants.....
We are not all fooled

@wanderings

Sunny weekend - new variant. How convenient. Cases start to come down - new variant. How convenient. Just before Christmas, and Saint Boris desperately needs an excuse to U-turn: new variant. How convenient. Is anyone noticing a pattern here?
Oh yes It's so obvious

So someone with actual Brazil covid, purposely evades UK border control, then purposely and stupidly goes get tested for covid, whilst still evading by giving wrong, false or no name and address details on test form. And we are supposed to believe this shit?

I finding this hunt for that 1 person with a Brazil variant who didn't fill their declaration out properly just propaganda for a Vaccine Passport.
