Foreign visitors to the UK: when will they be allowed?

Hello all,

I am curious if there is any information out there about when foreign visitors might be allowed to visit the UK without breaking lockdown rules, so long as they follow the quarantine regularions: is this something that might be legal from 17 May, or from mid-June?

The specific situation is that I am giving birth in August and my mother would like to come from the US at some point in the summer, whether for the birth (I know she can't come to the hospital) or beforehand. I haven't seen in her in two years and don't think I'll be able to travel myself once restrictions are lifted.

We have both now been vaccinated (her with Moderna, me with Pfizer) and she would stay in separate accommodation and get tested etc.

We don't want to break any rules, just trying to understand when this might be legally possible. Thank you (and please be kind, even if you don't agree that people should be travelling this summer.)

I thought they could come now from USA without quarantine.

She can come right now if she wants. It's only people coming from red list countries that have current restriction of either being a British citizen or resident of UK. Anyone else is free to come as long as they book 2 covid test to be performed on 2nd and 8th day and isolate for 10 days. She will also need to do a covid test before arriving. If she isolates at your house for 10 days then she becomes part of your household.

Nope,

Travel corridors have all gone (and AFAIK never did include the US anyway..)

Forgot to add that my answer is based on if she is traveling to UK Airports other than those in Scotland. If she is traveling direct to Scotland airport then she has to quarantine 10 days first at a hotel. The hotel has to be booked before coming to UK through gov.uk website. You can read in detail on

Thanks @Literallyfedup - she'll be coming to London, but it's good to know that about Scotland.
