Does anyone feel positive for the future?

I don’t really mean the immediate future as hopefully things will improve with the road map of reduced restrictions (hopefully!) and I feel cautiously optimistic and hopeful about that.

I understand the huge costs of covid and this with brexit being hugely hugely concerning. But I’m finding all the posters about the hideous future and economic fallout, terrible struggles ahead and how the ‘best days are behind us’ really hard. I have two small kids and feel so guilty for having them into this world if it’s going to be awful and difficult for them. Day to day is it going to go back to ‘normal’? What will be so bad? I know we don’t know for sure but does anyone feel hopeful and positive that we can recover and there’s happiness to be had ahead?

Yes and I truly truly believe that no matter what comes out of this (hand sanitizer and masks in handbag, and no shaking hands), that the best isn't behind us. Actually an Irish comedian was saying about how excellent the first gigs back will be and I well believe it! I think every little trip out after this will be a source of joy!!!!

Think mumsnet has the opposite effect on me than most. All the doom threads and posts convince me any doubts I have are stupid or unfounded. People write miserable predictions or answers and I am reminded that actually I have the information to prove them wrong. That helps me cope.

Anyway as for are future. Well things will slowly get back to some normality by summer. Some restrictions may last for a while. Masks when travelling, vaccine passports, that sort of thing.

Overall though I think the world will return to a normal. Good times will be plentiful. Weddings, events, holidays and a decent future for are kids.

After the Spanish flu there was the Roaring 20s.
It's going to be a rough few years, but then it'll be OK.
I'm pessimistic till 2025. But then we'll be free and clear and things will be so much better.

I do now since the government have kicked long Covid into the long grass. We need to accept people will always get this and die.

Zero Covid I mean not long Covid ffs

Yes I do! Humans have a habit of bouncing back. There are always things that create turbulence: economic uncertainty, viruses amongst them. And there are always recovery periods.
People will party hard when this is at a manageable level and that is going to be exciting and fun for our children, and school will return (maybe with a lot more technology!).
Science is also AMAZING these days, better and better. I'm excited for their futures and I think it'll be fine.

I'm feeling positive. The vaccine development and rollout so far has been amazing. As family, we will appreciate the smaller things more and seeing our friends and family that we took for granted (but I have no doubt travel and holidays will resume as before).

Not just vaccines as well, treatments are improving all the time. Look at what they’ve achieved with HIV. One pill a day and it’s undetectable in the body & you can’t pass it on! Incredible. Obviously a different virus, different transmission but more just to highlight what science can achieve! Treatment for covid will advance rapidly as so much money is being thrown at it!
