Should I say I’m a carer and CEV for the vaccine?!

I’m group 6 (underlying health conditions)

This is on my medical records, I spoke to the Dr yesterday who confirmed but couldn’t give me a timescale for when Id get my vaccine.

I’m due back to work in 3 weeks (on mat leave) and I work in a school.
I’m anxious about going back without the vaccine.

To date, 3 people I know have now has their vaccines but don’t qualify!
Two are 30 and 36 and the other 43!

I’ve tried to book online and it won’t allow me.
The only way it lets me get as far as booking an appointment is if I say I’m a carer and CEV!

I’m not trying to jump the que, I am eligible but it just seems that group 6 is a big mess and I’m totally fed up that people who aren’t even eligible have had theirs.

I really don’t want to go back to work without a vaccine.

What will happen if I book online and show up.
Will they turn me away?

If you have an underlying health condition that is on the group six list then you're eligible and can book? If you don't have one of these conditions then you're not. It's pretty straightforward.

Don't say you're a carer if you're not!

doubleleopardy · 25/02/2021 15:07

If you're group 6 you're not CEV.
I don't think you'll be allowed to book without certain signals being set on your GP records. They're not just going to take your word for it.

Fullofthejoysofspring · 25/02/2021 15:09

I'm group z6 and was contacted about the vaccine earlier this week. Does your medical record definitely show you're group 6?

SendMeHome · 25/02/2021 15:09

Group six isn’t through the central portal, it’s managed by GPs. I got my invite last weekend for this weekend.

Don’t lie. Everyone wants the vaccine before they go back to work. Hopefully you’ll get it, but if everyone lies, you’ll be pushed down the list.

Contact your GP and see how they’re assigning vaccines and if they can give you any idea of how far away you are, although they may not be able to - in our town; the four GPs are doing it together; and you get a text inviting you to book on a local system.

@Fullofthejoysofspring

Yes, definitely. I spoke to the Dr yesterday.

And I would probably be thought of as ineligible by you. I'm only 36 and in great health. I am a carer but most people don't know that. And I had mine today.

You have no idea why the people who have had it were eligible. Maybe they weren't but it's highly likely they were and you just don't know why.

Well I have tried booking with my NHS number online and it doesn’t let me!!

What will you do if you get there and ask for proof your you being a carer?

drivenmadbyhomeschool · 25/02/2021 15:13

Because group six can't book online unless you're a certain criteria! It's GP led. Your GP surgery will need to book you in. If you're sure your records show you should be in G6 then you need to be patient and they'll contact you. Contact them if you think it may help.

fistasledge · 25/02/2021 15:13

If you're group 6, you need to book through your GP, the link won't work for group 6.

But...if you're CEV you should have been done with group 4?

fistasledge · 25/02/2021 15:14

Sorry, just seen you're not CEV. Defo don't say you are if you're not!

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 25/02/2021 15:15

Group six is a massive group and it’s always been clear that it will take a while to work through it, so not having been called up yet doesn’t mean the system is a mess (although of course there are some individual errors coming up which you’d expect from something on this scale. You know you’re coded correctly, you just have to sit tight as they work through the list.

Windinmyhair · 25/02/2021 15:16

You need to check that your medical records have been coded correctly - it may be that according to the GP you are Gp 6, but the person who has to individually code people has miscoded you. It is worth asking as I've known people in this situation.

@drivenmadbyhomeschool

I don’t think you’re ineligible at all.

I know these 3 people very well, one is my colleague, the other is my sister in law and the third is my husbands cousin.

None of them are carers and they’ve all said they’re shucked they’ve been
been called 🙄

When I say they’re not eligible it’s because I KNOW they aren’t. I’m not just assuming!

They havent started group 6 in my area yet. My dd is cv and works in a school, also unable to book. Hopefully not be long, but I wouldn't lie, everyone desperately trying and contacting gp's etc will probably slow things up.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 25/02/2021 15:17

I'm the same, OP. I'm group 6 and the GP has confirmed it for me. I haven't heard a peep about it i.e. text/letter. GP basically told me they'd get to me when they got to me. Our local population is above average age so they're still working through the OAP community.
I will just wait my turn.

starfish4 · 25/02/2021 15:17

If you qualify you'll get a letter/phone call booking you in. Just be warned, they're checking around here. I had to produce my work badge or payslip and NHS card. DH had to take paperwork confirmation he was a member of an organisation that qualifies for vaccination.

I'd speak to the school. My other job is in a primary school. Teachers aren't wearing masks, but some using visors. Other members of staff are wearing masks and one or two visors as well.

yomellamoHelly · 25/02/2021 15:20

Am CV. One of dc CEV. Neither of us have had it yet. Have been told we have to wait to be contacted by GP.

PeterRabbitt · 25/02/2021 15:23

Group 6 is not a big mess, but it is the biggest group we are administering to. It will take us a lot longer to vaccinate cohort 6 in comparison to the first 5 we've done- our CCG has advised us to work age down and that honestly does seem to be the fairest way to administer.

On a side note- I have children in school and was desperate to find a loophole for our patients at my surgery to get those that are school staff vaccinated before the 8th March. We've been told it's an absolute no and we have to follow the cohorts. I don't agree with this but it is what it is. I'm sympathetic to all school staff going back unvaccinated in 2 weeks 😟

VicarofDibley · 25/02/2021 15:29

I am cev and actually a carer but shielding from work. Yes they will check but it goes on your notes. They check your details before they give you the injection. On mine it is cev and carer .So don't lie they will get to you.

Woodandsky · 25/02/2021 15:32

I wonder why GPs couldn’t just upload their list of group 6 patients to the national list so that we could book through the central system?

That would take a lot of pressure off GPs and the smaller centres so that they could concentrate on people unable to travel to the mass vaccination sites.

It seems odd for example that perfectly healthy 60 years olds can now book on the central site whereas someone in their 50s with underlying health conditions is still waiting for their gp to contact them.

BungleandGeorge · 25/02/2021 15:36

You just need to wait until contacted by your GP. You’ve put in your nhs number and you’re not eligible to book through the national service. It won’t be too long a wait, there’s many people to get through in group 6, unfortunately it’s just a case of waiting

tonyunclejohnny · 25/02/2021 15:39

You are trying to queue jump though aren't you! Yes you're eligible but so is the entire adult population. I know it's hard but wait your turn.

Luckyrabbitfoot · 25/02/2021 15:40

I have a family member who works at a vaccination centre and they have to ask questions and for proof if applicable to determine if they will let you have it. You won’t get it.

honkytonkheroe · 25/02/2021 15:41

Group 6 is vulnerable and not ECV. ECV people are told to shield and have been asked to book their vaccine. Vulnerable group 6 people should not shield and have to wait to be contacted at this point.
