Would it really be that hard to update the system so group 6 CV can book online?

Over 60s can now book online, meanwhile millions of clinically vulnerable people are waiting, and waiting, and waiting for their invite from the GP. Many of whom are willing and able to travel to mass vax centres where there is capacity.

It seems like madness. Does anyone know for definite though if it’s even possible for group 6 info to be passed to the national system and how difficult it would be?

I also wonder how far passed group 6 the majority of the country would need to be on before there was the political will to make it happen?

Don't forget GPs are already leaving people off the group who should be included

MyBossIsATwat · 24/02/2021 13:53

@Beaniecats

I haven’t forgotten that and I think it’s terrible. I have no idea about a potential solution to that issue though.

Check the mass vax website daily.
They are updating codes where they can and some GP 6 may be able to book that way soon

Beeeees · 24/02/2021 14:00

Hope you're right Where

It all feels a bit subjective at the moment.

Think what annoys me is I get so little from them just a monthly script, supposed to have twice yearly reviews which never happens. ( epilepsy)

bungobango · 24/02/2021 14:10

I called the surgery and asked in which group I am. I wasn't in group 6 as I expected but they fixed that and I could book an appointment.

Exactly - group 6 is a mess. Some GPs allowing vaccines for certain things that others won't. Some GPs turning eligible patients away. The QCovid system is an improvement, but doesn't help 16-18 year olds who still have to get through the GP gatekeepers.
Isla2021 · 24/02/2021 14:22

Is it not age 64 and over? Have they just updated it?

Boulshired · 24/02/2021 14:25

Some in group 6 will have or now had their age group being vaccinated before their GP gets in touch if it carries on like this.

Crocky · 24/02/2021 14:32

Carers in receipt of carers allowance can book online so maybe they are slowly adding parts of group 6.

MyBossIsATwat · 24/02/2021 15:18

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo

Does checking about 7 times a day count? (Asking for a friend of course 👀)

@Beaniecats

Oh that’s awful, you must feel so so frustrated. I can’t even imagine, I mean I’m feeling like this and my GP has at least confirmed I’m marked as group 6 and told me they’ve only just started 5, so at least I have that to go on. Flowers

@Isla2021

It says that on the website but I know that people younger than that have tried and been successful.

@ Everyone else

It does all seem a right mess doesn’t it, I will continue to check in the hope that codes are indeed being added regularly and that I will be lucky enough that whatever my code is included.

They updated to allow carers to book online yesterday. They will be updating it, just be patient. They don't want a bottleneck I think

Beaniecats · 24/02/2021 15:23

I can't call the GP as angry capital letters message on website not to call re vaccine but epilepsy is definitely group 6. However the Epilepsy Society sent an update round saying many epilepsy patients are being told by GPs they are not group 6 eligible. They are

Mindymomo · 24/02/2021 15:28

My local GP practice puts a weekly update out on facebook. They are currently working through group 6, with over 50’s being called first. They’ve said it’s the largest group to get through.

RaggieDolls · 24/02/2021 15:30

This is why I have changed my mind on certain professions being prioritised for vaccines. It would be the same mess as group six and would slow everything down. The age thing is blissfully simple.

My 68 year old Dad with no underlying health conditions could book the next day at a hub with no involvement from his GP. I really wish it was as simple for group six even though I can understand why it is complex and why a better system (e.g. personalised codes for patients to book online) hasn't been set up given the short lead in time.

Jaxhog · 24/02/2021 15:31

Those of us vulnerable people who've just had the first jab can't book a second one yet, while those who are now booking, can. I only hope they can still fit us in at the right time, or our first vaccine will have been wasted.

huggzy · 24/02/2021 15:39

I agree.

Apparently carers who receive carers allowance can now book online but carers who aren't entitled to carers allowance can't. They're entitled to a vaccine either way but if you don't receive carers allowance you have to wait to be contacted.

pepperaunt · 24/02/2021 15:41

Definitely should be Group 6. Haven’t heard a thing from GP, who is uncontactable. I’m off to drop a letter listing my condition and medication through the postbox at the surgery to make sure they put me in the list. I’m beyond furious!

FenceSplinters · 24/02/2021 15:48

I’m group six and I’m waiting to hear from my gp, although I check online every day just in case! I don’t want to ring and ask the doctor surgery, as I’m sure they are busy enough right now. I’m a teacher and I was really hoping to have the vaccine before March 8th 🤞🏼

DinosaurDiana · 24/02/2021 15:48

The hub I am working for want to manage their group 6 patients themselves. Therefore they will have to wait to be called.
I heard a manager say that they they’re doing their ‘asthmatics’ next week. You really are at the mercy of your GP.

It will be OK. Everyone getting their first will need a second, not just those in the top 4 groups so this is going to be an issue that will have to be dealt properly for every single patient that gets vaccinated. People getting group 6 vaccines aren't depriving anyone of a second dose. I think my second dose will be in May, which right now seems like a lifetime away!
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/02/2021 16:22

Can over 60's now book online ?

Drivingmecrazy2021 · 24/02/2021 17:50

The whole thing is crazy as a carer to a medical complex child I was told by the GP that basically I wasn’t entitled because she was under 16 and all children need carers. Managed to book one 8.9 miles away through the system online eventually was apparently the newest clinic I could attend despite my paid carer for her ( 6 hours only a week ) for their one weeks ago in the clinic 10 minutes from my door. I know have to take my child who is in shielding on 2 trains a bus so that I can get protection to protect her 🙈
