Janssen vaccine trial thread

I thought it might be nice to have thread for anyone doing the Janssen vaccine trial. I’ve been enjoying reading the Novavax trial thread and seeing what might be in store for those of us doing this trial.

I’m due to have my second dose of vaccine/placebo next week.

I’ll be very interested to find out how many people have already been unblinded. I’m 48 and was definitely one of the youngest in my group when I went for my first appointment and vaccine. I suspect many of the others on the trial would have already have been offered a Pfizer or AZ vaccine.

@Doublethecuddles it sounds like you had it. I had that reaction with dose 2 and tiredness with dose 1.

The ‘what happens if it doesn’t get approval’ question had occurred to me too. The lead doctor at my hospital said we’d get a letter from our GP (in place of the little blue card other people get) but that can’t happen until it is approved. It was supposed to happen last week and then this week just gone. The concerns about it that were raised in the media on Friday worry me. I hope it doesn’t delay things for too much longer.

JustMeAndWheatley · 10/04/2021 13:41

@femaleJoshLyman - good luck. I found it very stressful waiting to find out, and then a huge relief once I knew I’d been done.

JustMeAndWheatley · 12/04/2021 12:58

Has everyone else who was unblinded had an email this morning asking if they will stay in the trial?

I was amused at the bit asking if I’d like a letter with evidence that I’d had the vaccine. Who wouldn’t want that?!

Doublethecuddles · 12/04/2021 20:55

No email, I got blood taken last week to check for antibodies. I was told them that they think the study will finish early.

WaveAndShout · 12/04/2021 21:00

I haven't had an email today. But I do have a letter from the stating I've had the vaccine as I requested one before.

JustMeAndWheatley · 12/04/2021 22:47

This is what I got. Maybe it’s just to participants at my trial centre? I’ve chopped off the doctor’s name from the bottom of the email.

I hope all this means that the vaccine really will get final approval this week. They’ve been saying ‘any day now’ for what feels like weeks.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 14/04/2021 13:19

Just back from my hospital appointment. Was very lucky - they phoned me while I was on the way to cancel but said I could go in because I was 20mins away (I live over an hour away!). They were not giving any single doses so had cancelled clinics because of this. I DID have the vaccine! I thought I had due to the side effects. But...at the moment if there is a vaccine certificate/passport I wouldn’t get one because the Jansen vaccine has not yet been approved in the UK. They are hopeful this will change but don’t know when! The whole team I’ve been working with have been lovely, so friendly and giving lots of information, I wouldn’t hesitate to do future trials.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 14/04/2021 13:20

Should have said, Janssen are not giving out ANY doses at the moment even on trials, that is why clinics are cancelled.

JustMeAndWheatley · 14/04/2021 16:01

Good that you’d had it already.

I hope it isn’t too long before it is approved. I want a certificate! Yesterday’s news did worry me a little, more in terms of the delay than lack of confidence in the vaccine.

I agree, the staff at my centre have all been fantastic. Very friendly, welcoming and professional.

JustMeAndWheatley · 29/04/2021 18:41

I got my official letter today confirming that I’ve had the vaccine.

MrsFin · 29/04/2021 19:11

Hello!
Bit late to the party, but pleased to have found this thread.

I've been on the Ensemble 2 Jansen trial since January. I had my serving jab about a month ago.

I'm taking part in the trial based at Southmead hospital in Bristol, but having checkups in GWH Swindon.

MrsFin · 29/04/2021 19:11

I also have confirmation that I've had the live vaccine. 😀

MrsFin · 29/04/2021 19:13

Just to add - I had NO side effects at all.
I was surprised when they told me I'd had a live vaccine, and the nurse says everyone who finds out is surprised because side effects are very rare

Sunflower2626 · 10/05/2021 14:32

Hi! I suddenly realised there was a backlog of messages here I hadn't seen.

So, I was in the unusual position of discovering that I'd had the placebos and then getting the single dose vaccine about 90 minutes before the whole thing was paused following the pause in the US. I wasn't too concerned, and have been fine, but I did rather think someone might have got in touch with me to put my mind at rest. I don't feel the communications from Janssen have been very good.

Like others, I'm slightly concerned about the whole "vaccine passport" issue, but have now had the official letter that says I've been vaccinated so hopefully that will do the job, if need be. Fingers crossed it's approved for use in the UK soon. I think it'll have to do after it's been approved in so many other countries.

steppemum · 10/05/2021 14:38

dh has been doing this. He was unblinded last week. He had had it.
I didn't know that about vaccine passports, so thank for the heads up on that

Doublethecuddles · 28/05/2021 18:46

It’s been approved!
Was beginning to worry that if they introduced vaccine passports I wouldn’t get one.

Sunflower2626 · 28/05/2021 19:02

I know! It's lovely to know I've now had an approved vaccine. Seems a bit more "legit" somehow!

thefemaleJoshLyman · 28/05/2021 21:46

I was so excited when I heard. I wonder when things like the NHS app might update?

MrsFin · 28/05/2021 23:07

How did you find out that it's been approved? I haven't heard it in the news, and not heard anything from the trial people.

PandaSock · 29/05/2021 07:21

@MrsFin

I got a BBC news alert yesterday at around lunchtime. It was on the BBC website and others. Haven't heard anything from the trial people about it.

I hope the NHS app will update next week at some point. Seems like it's going to be quite soon.
JustMeAndWheatley · 29/05/2021 10:24

According to the NIHR it will be on the NHS app by the time of the next travel update, which I understand to be be on the 7th of June.

MrsFin · 30/05/2021 09:01

It seems it's the one vaccine vaccine that's been approved.

I'm on a trial to see if two vaccines are better than one. I've had two jabs anyway.

MrsFin · 03/06/2021 23:39

Has everyone received the email update about the vaccine certificate/passport today?
