Already people saying this will be over on the 21st of June.

I too am in the category of, wait and see.
People hear what they want to hear.
It may all pan out ok. But just as easily, may not.
Dont want to go on other threads and burst peoples' bubbles.

Christmas and the return of schools in January are a different situation. We were in the middle of the winter peak, the Kent variation caused the spread to behave differently to the expected trend.

It's not long ago, but we're now on the natural decline of the respiritory illness season. We've seen globally that rates plummet in the spring even without vaccines and the progress on vaccines is phenomenal in just a couple of months. The vast majority of the demographics most likely to be seriously ill have already been given better immunity than the flu vaccines regularly offer.

The government did honour the June 15th and July 4th dates last year. There was a delay of a couple of weeks in August on other indoor leisure.
But we now know without the benefit of the vaccine, how different industries affect transmission. There are far fewer unknowns than a year ago.
It's too big a gamble for the government to throw around this much hope, especially after so long without a reasonable degree of confidence of delivering. Plus public complience is inravelling since New Year and the passing of the winter peak as we now approach a year of significant sacrifice of out lives, opportinities and rights to a family life.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 22/02/2021 20:57

I hope you’re right @BogRollBOGOF but I don’t feel very confident that the easing will proceed on the ‘no earlier than’ dates they’ve outlined.

Randomschoolworker19 · 22/02/2021 21:13

The government never learn and so it seems neither do the people on here.

1st lockkdown: entered too late, left too early. Eat out to help out Hmm

November mini lockkdown / tiers. The shit show that was Christmas and New year ....

3rd lockkdown, again too late. Schools are safe - opens schools for 1 day then closes them. Leave lockkdown too ear.....

Hits the nail on the head. I laughed and I wished I hadn't found it funny. It isn't.
Dustyboots · 22/02/2021 21:49

It will all be made our fault, somehow, when we don’t get our promised freedom.

I think people have lost all reason during these lockdowns. I thought I had - but it’s shocking me how easily hoodwinked so many others are.

CheeseJalapenoBread · 22/02/2021 21:51

For gods sake, just let people have one day with a bit of hope and positivity before you crack out the joy sponge.

Well said
LunaHeather · 22/02/2021 22:05

I hear you OP

The catches could be many and varied

Including getting a lateral flow test to eat out

Vaccine passports

If they can funnel money into the pockets of their mates, they will.

Insane. I just don't take it seriously.

There are threads for joy aren't there? I won't post there. OP was clear with her title.
RedcurrantPuff · 22/02/2021 22:12

I’m glad he’s said that Covid will always be with us and that we will get more illness and deaths no matter when we ease lockdown. Not that I’m glad people are dying of course but that it finally puts the nail in the coffin of the zero Covid lot

BarbaraofKent · 22/02/2021 22:12

They never really said it would all be over in 3 weeks and anyone who believed that would have to be a bit dim surely?

Just as dim as the people who think they will be going out clubbing with their friends on the 21st of June, I’ve already seen a load of meme’s about it on FB so people will think it is happening.

friendlycat · 22/02/2021 22:24

There is now a road map out of it but surely it’s fair that it is in stages with time between each. Sure it still sucks but it’s a plan alongside the progressive vaccination execution.

Look at the state that other European countries are in and the shambles of their vaccinations. At least we are going in the right direction. A lot has been learnt Worldwide and is still being learnt. Whether we like it or not we just have to push through to get out the other side.

I don't think of it either way

I am passionately anti lockdown and I find it easier to be realistic, I nearly killed myself in April. Friends and family thought
I was being hysterical and stupid and didn't know how to help, except one - angel.

Now they are going a bit doolally and i feel like Taylor Swift "don't say I didn't warn you". They chomped down on that poisoned apple!

(There's a gif, I cba to find it.)

Originalusername2021 · 22/02/2021 22:25

I’ll also add that the people sharing these memes don’t even live in England so that’s how ‘dim’ people are.

Let's hope so! Pass me the hammer 😂
IloveFebruary · 22/02/2021 22:27

I’m joining the thread of misery.

June will be the broken promises of Christmas all over again.

Or alternatively lockdown 4 come Christmas 2021. I just don’t believe a word they say.

Originalusername2021 · 22/02/2021 22:28

@LunaHeather so glad you found an angel - yes I prefer to be realistic too, definitely hope this is a better year than last year but taking each step as it comes.

Thank you
She is one of the gems who was out protesting in summer when idiots everywhere were saying "why protest when lockdown is over?" 🤦🏽‍♀️
