Had AZ vaccine on Saturday but side effects getting worse rather than better

Has anyone else had this? Had AZ vaccine Saturday morning and felt fine until early hours of Sunday when I got some aches and pains. Yesterday also had painful glands in neck and headache. Today I’ve got painful joints and lump/redness at injection site. It’s like the side effects are worsening which I didn’t expect on day 3.

I had mine Saturday - I've had a headache and fatigue since Sat afternoon. I just want to sleep!

NoMackerelInSwindon · 22/02/2021 13:22

Yes, but Day 4 and afterwards were OK.

Itsagrandoldteam · 22/02/2021 13:31

I had mine around 2.00pm Saturday afternoon, just a sore arm yesterday, but today I'm so tired, I feel I could fall asleep now. It feels really heavy behind my eyes and nose, if that makes sense, and my eye keeps watering.
Nothing bad at all though.
My sister had a really bad headache for 2 days, my FIL had a pretty rough night after his, but MIL and BIL had no symptoms at all.

I had mine yesterday about 2pm. By 8pm I was feeling sick, migraine, shaking and so cold. I spent all night shaking with cold and fever symptoms. Took DD to school this morning and was nearly fainting on way out.

I've slept all this morning to try feel better for work shift this afternoon. Feel quite a lot better now after extra sleep. Horrible feeling.

I had mine yesterday at 1:30 and started with aches around 9pm, had a night of flu like symptoms with aches, headache and going from freezing to hot. Today aches have continued, I keep having waves of nausea, headache, cough/sore throat and I’m sure my taste/smell is off - not gone but just not very good. They told me most symptoms last around 48 hours but could be up to a week but to treat symptoms as if it could be something else after the 48 hour period and if needed isolate/test if anything continued after that time

I was a bit headachy and tired for a week after. Have you got a temperature, cough? I was told if I had covid symptons anytime 24 hours after my vaccination to get tested.

I think arm soreness is typical of any vaccine. My arm was worse when I had the flu one in December than the covid vaccine.
Hope you feel better soon.

Had mine on Wednesday, felt really rough on Thursday. Gradually got better, and I felt fine by Sunday.

thekingfisher · 22/02/2021 18:51

Not had the covid vaccine - however did recently have a private pneumonia vaccination and felt really rough for about 4-5 days, ranging from muscle fatigue, a comically heavy sore/ aching arm and a non stop headache. I was quite pleased as it must have worked on my system- but that was the strongest reaction I'd had to a vaccine ever.

Yes, it’s been a couple of days and like I’ve got flu. Feverish and temp of 39, chills, aching and can hardly get out of bed. I was crawling to the loo on the first night as I was so ill. My injection site has also become more painful and can barely lift my arm.

Sorry you’re feeling bad OP, quite a lot of people are reporting similar effects.

These side effects are reported in 30-50% of people with AZ according to this www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca/information-for-healthcare-professionals-on-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca

I’m on day 3 and hit a wall of tiredness this afternoon and iffy head and nausea. First day bad nausea and aches and headache, then I was much better almost normal yesterday so have been surprised to feel so rubbish and low today

Workinghardeveryday · 22/02/2021 21:24

Had mine 2pm on Sunday 2 weeks ago. Tired but fine Sunday night, Monday very tired but could have been anyway. Tuesday - very poorly, temperature, headache, felt hungover, extremely tired, chills, not well at all. Same Wednesday and Thursday but every day slightly better. Friday night much better.

CKBJ · 22/02/2021 21:41

My mum had hers Saturday. Sat night uncontrollable shaking, temp, sickness, flu like so tired and didn’t get out of bed yesterday. A little better today but still flu like, so tired and pins and needles. Make sure you use the yellow card reporting system.

So I am not alone. MiL suggested to DH that I was a wuss, which has left me irrationally annoyed.

Vaccination on Saturday and was very fatigued on Sunday. I had assumed that would be it, but today was worse, with pain from my arm spreading through my shoulder and up my neck, and a headache to match. It has, however started lifting in the past hour.

I used to work abroad so have had plenty of vaccinations before, but never a reaction like this. I am not looking forward to the second dose. But essential. I think I had the virus just before the first lockdown and I’ve heard that the reaction can be worse for those who have been infected before. In which case I must be swimming in antibodies.

I hope others feel better soon.

My neighbour had the AZ. He had sickness and what he described as severe abdominal pain, starting rapidly afterwards.
He was very unwell for several hours, then it suddenly stopped as quickly as it started.
Hope you’re ok, op.

Pusspot · 23/02/2021 09:35

I had the AZ yesterday at 9am. I felt a ‘whoosh’ inside me as soon as it was injected and my arm was stiff and uncomfortable. That’s fine, I thought. All to be expected.
I was well all day until 4pm when I suddenly felt really poorly. Shaking, shivering, headache, nauseous, and my body was aching all over. I sat in the armchair with two blankets, hat, gloves etc. Went to bed at 7, but couldn’t sleep because the room was spinning. I feel a bit better today, but still nauseous and achy.
I’m now wondering if I will react this way for the second dose. I had Covid in the autumn and had all the above symptoms - but not at the same time.

Needmoresleep · 23/02/2021 11:09

I hope you are feeling a bit better.

My arm was so sore last night that I maxed out on ibuprofen and ended up taking the codeine I had been prescribed following surgery but had not needed. The pain is more manageable today and no fever or nausea, but the fatigue is overwhelming. A day in bed catching up on emails and MN. I am really not looking forward to round two. However I am now hearing of several acquaintances who had COVID severely, so I do realise that the risks of a strong reaction are a necessary price to pay.

Toilenstripes · 23/02/2021 11:31

I’m having my first dose tomorrow and feel strangely comforted by the reports above. Knowing what to expect and all. Let’s all hang in there!
