Were your side effects to flu vaccine and covid vaccine similar?

If you have had both the flu vaccine and the covid vaccine this year, did you get side effects to one, both, or neither? In some ways you might think it could be related, if you are the sort whose body lets you know that it's mounting an immune response by various symptoms - that might happen regardless of which vaccine.

I was told by the vaccinator that more people were getting side effects for the flu vaccine this year compared to previous ones (I had the under 65s one), but in the end, I didn't feel anything more than slight site tenderness. Totally fine otherwise.

I haven't had the covid one yet, but I'm wondering whether I will similarly not get many side effects, or if there is absolutely no relation between who develops side effects to any particular vaccine. I'm booked for Pfizer next week.

In some ways I would like side effects so that I know it's worked, but I'm also happy not to have them if I know for sure it's working anyway. I have had other vaccines to childhood illnesses in the past, but have got the illnesses anyway (including some of the highest % effective vaccines) so I always wonder and hope my body is doing what it should. I have had other vaccines in the meantime, but only for things that I am very unlikely to come into contact with, so hard to tell if they have worked or not.

No. COVID jab side effects much worse. I already had antibodies though.

None for flu, apart from a sore arm. Nausea, tiredness and an incredibly painful neck for Covid. Far worse.

Beebityboo · 19/02/2021 19:31

I had the Pfizer jab yesterday. Was fine all day but this morning and most of the day have had a temperature, headache and I'm shattered. Felt worse this morning though, and it's better than having covid. The last two years I've had the flu jab and have felt completely fine and normal afterwards. This is the only vaccine I have ever had where I felt unwell afterwards, but I am still so grateful to have had it.

I always have an immune response to vaccinations but the covid jab was in a league of its own in terms of the effect. I don't think I've had covid at all, and had the Oxford jab, but while flu jabs leave me feeling a bit under the weather, the covid jab made me want to take to my bed

I've had the flu vaccine and shot 1 of the pfizer biontech covid vaccination. I felt tired, headachey and shivery after the flu vaccine and have just had a sore arm after the covid vaccine.

I've had the flu vaccine and one dose of the Pfizer Covid vaccine - only side effect was a very sore arm, slightly worse for the Covid vaccine.

I've now had both flu and covid jabs, flu in October and AZ covid yesterday.

No particular reaction to either, and I can't even work out the injection site for the covid, can't see or feel it at all.

When I had it done I was warned that if I'd had covid without symptoms I might have a bad reaction the vaccine, but clearly I haven't!

Thanks, sounds like I should be prepared for side effects then, and grateful if I don't get them!!

I booked on a day where I have to work later in the day and the following morning. then I have the rest of that day off and the one after as well. I could have booked for my afternoon off instead, but I thought the side effects might not appear for 24 hours, and that it might be better this way. Plus I wanted to get on with it rather than wait 24 hours!! Those were the only two days available.

No side effects from flu vaccine. Moderate to significant side effects from covid vaccine. I work in a care home, we all seemed to experience similar side effects from covid vaccine to be honest.

gettingfedupagain · 19/02/2021 20:38

Flu - nothing

AZ covid - felt awful (feverish, achy) for 8 days

gettingfedupagain · 19/02/2021 20:39

I started to feel the affects about 5-6hrs after the jab
