Did you get into group 6? I called my gp reception and they said that mental health doesn't belong to group 6. The receptionist read out their list that sounded different what I have read.

A friend of mine with bipolar disorder had hers today. She has been very unwell relatively recently and was signed off work for a long time until just a couple of months ago (I don’t know if that makes any difference to moving her into the “severe” category though).

Yes schizoaffective disorder is definitely in Group 6. I would try to speak to a GP if you have not been correctly recorded as being on the severe mental illness register. Good luck!

The receptionist read through their list and there wasn't any mention of any kind of mental health issue. She kept saying kidney issues, copd etc. I tried to say she might be reading list for CEV but she was adamant.

I have bipolar, diagnosed 5 years ago and stable and I have had mine. I would question this as it is not up to individual gp surgeries to make up their own list for group 6.

LockdownIsDragging · 19/02/2021 16:10

Of course it is possible they are a bit behind and are still doing the cev list of patients.

bungobango · 19/02/2021 16:13

She said that I am not in group 6. I find it odd that mental health wasn't in her list. She told me to call again on Monday. If the receptionist then still insist me not being in group 6 I will ask to talk to a gp.

That’s not right you should be in group 6

Gobacktothe90s · 19/02/2021 17:00

Would you think OCD classes as serious mental health condition?

bungobango · 19/02/2021 18:09

Is it that bipolar etc should automatically go to group 6 or is it that gp judges the severity?

There are specific defined diagnoses which mean one should be recorded on the SMI register in the GP records. I’m not sure if this happens automatically if the diagnosis is recorded, or whether someone has to tick a box or something to add you to the register. Everyone on this SMI register should be in group 6 and invited for the vaccination.

These are the conditions that should be included on the register:
Schizophrenia
• Schizotypal personality
• Persistent delusional disorder
• Acute/transient psychotic disorders
• Induced delusional disorder
• Schizoaffective disorders
• Manic episodes
• Bipolar disorder
• Severe depression with psychosis
• Non-organic psychosis

So you are clearly included

With these things it can be best to email, people are more likely to do a proper check as it’s a permanent record. Especially putting the relevant source in the email.

bungobango · 19/02/2021 20:55

Good idea with an email but their web page is down and I can't send them a message. If it's not back on by Monday I will call them again. Hopefully this time somebody with more accurate knowledge answers.

I called them this morning again and they said it was a computer problem that my name didn't come up. I am booked for vaccination on Thursday.
