So a friend said today her 17yo dd who has mild asthma and her h, in his 40s, no health problems, had their vaccines today.

I asked why. She has no idea. She rang the gp surgery to check her h was eligible. isn't this mad?

I'm 48, with asthma and have had hospital treatment for psoriasis in the last two years, yet have not been called yet...

I'm fine with that, but why are people with no underlying conditions being called who are at the same surgery??!

@CurlyReds

So if you’re group 6 you should have had a shielding letter? I’m 40, I’ve been called for vaccination but I haven’t had a letter. Presumed I must be group 6 without realising but then I should have had a letter?
No group 4 were the shielding group. Some people have just been added to the shielding group this week but not all of group six. For group six you have to be contacted by GP to book.

Because the system isn't in place that covid relevant medical history is classified in order of necessity. And it's not one person making a single list. Sorry you're disappointed but anything rolled out this quickly will have imperfections. Alternative could be taking longer for anyone to get the vaccine while they create a more cohesive system? Or crack on with broad strokes, miss a few, treat a few too early but get the program up and running? I know it's tough, especially if you're worried. (also on an entirely separate note, hi five to fellow psoriasis sufferer. I am itched to bleeding this morning - NOTHING is soothing me!)
I too

I presume I must be group 6 then, because I’ve been called. No idea why I am group 6 though.

I’m having treatment for cancer and not heard anything.

@crankycow80

Group 6 has been an absolute joke. I feel sorry for the 60-64 year old group who have to wait and watch while they vaccinate student nurses and people with no self control.
Presuming you are talking about people with a very high BMI. You do know in most cases it’s a lot more complicated than “no self control” don’t you? Or did you mean to be so judgey and unpleasant?
Oaktree55 · 19/02/2021 17:25

The mess up they’ve made is that they’ve prevented many highly mobile Group 6 attending mass vax centres as you need to wait for GP invitation.

Meanwhile many (all) GP surgery’s appear to be trying to vax the 65-70 group themselves by inviting this group and actively discouraging attendance at mass vax centres.

So the centres are not busy and the GP hubs are slow. I guess it’s tied to the money they get paid to vax 🤷🏽‍♀️.

They need to either open up Group 6 to National Booking system or allow younger ages to attend mass vax. Waste otherwise.

Dh has his jab tomorrow. We are confused because at 58 he should be in group 8, but his text said he was vulnerable. His only underlying condition is gout for which he takes allopurinol. I guess gout is a form of arthritis but didn't think it was enough to bump him forward?

LimitIsUp · 19/02/2021 20:36

I agree Darceydashwood, the comment about people with no self control was vile and inexcusable. The super-morbidly obese have an eating disorder. Nobody would vilify someone with anorexia in the same way

Sevensilverrings · 19/02/2021 22:14

Re the swiftqueue booking site....the confusion is that some (few) areas, ie Nottingham, are using this for group six, and saying group six can book on without Dr contacting. This isn’t the case in most areas.
As I’ve said elsewhere, I have not a clue why there isn’t a nation system and good communication about it all. GPs aren’t helping themselves by providing such sparse, or no, updates. And don’t get me started on the lack of info for unpaid carers.......
