DH Mitral Valve Prolapse - would he be in this group??

Hi, I know this is specific but DH has annual hospital follow ups for MVP, he gets the free flu jab each year. In his 30’s. I’m just curious if anyone knows if he might get a vaccine in this underlying health condition group? I’ve read the government list but don’t know if it falls under any of these categories.

Does anyone know how far into sending out invites for these vaccines they are now?

Hi. I have mitral valve prolapse and only get a follow up every 5 years. I checked with GP and I am group 6. They told me they think I’ll be invited for a jab shortly.

Thanks very much, that’s so strange, my hubby has annual follow ups I was sure he’d be on the list but the GP receptionist said he doesn’t fall into the categories required so will be with the general public. I wonder if it depends on where you live? That’s so odd. On the government site it just says ‘Heart Condition’. It doesn’t say anything specific now ...

Can you double check? When I called I specifically asked them to check my records and what group I was recorded as and it was 6. Maybe it does depend on GP discretion as I’ve heard another poster saying her DH who had MVP got taken off the flu jab list Hmm

This is what I’m worried about... it’s so unfair that it’s up to their discretion, surely there should just be a list from the government, GPs aren’t qualified to say which heart conditions are and aren’t worthy surely, where do they draw the line?

I did call them earlier and they said he doesn’t qualify for this group... I’ll write to his GP and see if I can get anywhere that way.

Thank you x

So sorry to hear that it does sound very unfair. My GPs surgery have always been overly cautious about my MVP which is a good thing I suppose. They even vaxxed me against pneumonia several years ago just it case. Yes, maybe try writing to the GP directly or asking to speak with them.

Hi op, I have mitral regurgitation and not under specialist care/I don’t have any treatment so I would definitely say your DH’s condition is more significant than mine. I’m 49 and just been telephoned by the surgery to book my vaccine in as they told me I’m in group 6. I have no other health conditions or risk factors. I would push your GP to get your dh classed as group 6.

I have MVP, last check up 3 years ago and everything fine apart from trivial regurgitation, i assumed i would be group 6 but not so sure now.
My coeliac ds had his Covid Jab two weeks ago.

Ellietheant · 19/02/2021 09:09

Thank you all. Yes he got the pneumonia vaccine a few years ago as well, it just doesn’t add up. I wonder if there’s been a mistake... I’ll keep pushing to see if I can get him on the list

Epilepsy groovy patients also being given this message Giving group 6 to GPs to administer is a colossal mistake Not sure a gp receptionist should be advising on this ....
