Anyone any idea? Maybe when non essential shops re-open? Missing swimming and classes so much.

Soon I hope although I am a bit more nervous about going back this time because of more transmissible varients😳

wanderings · 17/02/2021 18:52

Why is Saint Boris condemning us to this unhealthy lockdown lifestyle, when he himself said "we need to be fitter to resist the virus"? Total fucking hypocrisy, snatching away people's exercise and organised sport. And I've got my bingo card ready for his merry men blaming us for being fat and burdening the NHS, when THEY CAUSED the fatness by snatching away our exercise.

480Widdio · 17/02/2021 19:20

Swim England are lobbying the Government to reopen Pools at the earliest opportunity.

Thousands upon thousands of us depend on Swimming to keep fit.I swim 1,000m a day normally,I am 72.My mobility has deteriorated so much now, really affecting me mentally as well.

Frozenintime · 17/02/2021 19:28

Need gyms open for my DS. Climbing is his mental health medicine and unfortunately they classes climbing centres as gyms. I would at least like a date to aim for, instead of this meaningless void

PollyIndia · 17/02/2021 19:36

I own a boutique gym and have spent a bloody fortune on Perspex screens and social distancing measures and viral decontamination misting since July. We’ve only been open 3.5 months in the last 12. We have missed out on the vat cut for hospitality and my 45 teachers are all freelance so I could only furlough 2 people. I’ve been running online classes to still pay my teachers but am so far from break even. It’s just not sustainable. Everyone talks about bars and pubs but gyms have not been mentioned. My guess is may...

PollyIndia · 17/02/2021 19:42

Oh and I run group classes so wasn’t allowed to open in may. Socially distanced classes though like meditation and yoga, where people bring own mats in an airy studio with the windows and skylights open. We were a month behind pubs last summer. If it’s any earlier than may, I’ll be amazed.

wanderings · 17/02/2021 19:45

@PollyIndia It's so awful the way the government FORCED businesses such as yours to spend a fortune on being "Covid-safe"... and then condemned you to being closed for months and months. I'm so angry on your behalf. The government seems determined to destroy everything people have worked hard for on the altar of Covid.

PollyIndia · 17/02/2021 22:31

It’s so true wanderings. And I’m trying my best to keep paying people and keep going but my rent is still high and at some point the money will run out. So frustrating when you know you had a really good business a year ago!

petition to open swimming pools ASAP is still taking signatures

That was the open air pool petition...

Here is petition for 'Work Out to Help Out' scheme

Youngatheart00 · 17/02/2021 23:02

Another one who really wants them to reopen. I’m miserable without mine and have piled on a stack of weight without ever losing the first lockdown gain.

Eccle80 · 17/02/2021 23:23

I know it is still just speculation, but this doesn’t sound very promising

Katie517 · 17/02/2021 23:45

@Eccle80 it seems odd that nothing says the word gym specifically, the same for hairdressers which leads me to think it may be earlier than we anticipate. I know there has been a lot of industry lobbying and pressure from ukactive, swim England etc.

Eccle80 · 17/02/2021 23:53

@Katie517 I really hope so! They do often seem to be ignored completely in news stories, though in that one I was taking sports facilities to include gyms and pools.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/02/2021 00:37

Well, when the new variant was kicking off where I live, I was going to the pool every morning before work, 8 people in the pool at a time. Then going to work in a school. Maybe lucky. Whichever, I'll be back in there the day it opens.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 18/02/2021 00:43

My kids really want to be back at gym and tramp and they need the exercise. I hope its all open soon.

May seems far too far away.

GintyMcGinty · 18/02/2021 00:49

In England - May
In Scotland - 2025
