Next week's announcement won't be the good news we think it'll be

Listening to the news and reading between the lines regarding the latest variant that's supposed to be resistant to the vaccine, I don't think it's going to be brilliant news next week.
I dont think it'll be a case of, We've got this. You can all go out now.
Im hoping theyll say for certain that schools can go back. At least.
I think we are still in the shit. They just haven't told us.
I'm prepared to be told I'm worrying over nothing.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/02/2021 18:03

And yes. We have been told for a while that we may need regular boosters.

But that is still being researched. No final data available yet!

Quartz2208 · 16/02/2021 18:04

@wonderstuff

As for socialising the Twitter leak I read was we will be able to meet 1 person outside.
we already can meet one other person outside.

Pfizer works against the new mutation on the variants that worries them.

Oxford seems to be ok at preventing serious

Moderna I think has a reduction but still enough

It was never going to be its ok we have this it was always going to be a slow slow process

wonderstuff · 16/02/2021 18:05

Yes but only for exercise, apparently we'll be allowed to sit down for a chat.

Beaniecats · 16/02/2021 18:06

Of course it won't be good news
We know that
Lockdown, house arrest, is our future

Beaniecats · 16/02/2021 18:07

@sadpapercourtesan

I am also worried about the newest variant and the possibility of vaccine escape. I don't think we are anywhere near the end of this, personally.

But I will be beyond happy if my 16 and 18yos can go back to college. I can wait, for the rest.

That's what they want, to frighten people with new variants Fear equals control
KatherineJaneway · 16/02/2021 18:07

Im hoping theyll say for certain that schools can go back. At least.

I don't think so. They'd be foolish to let all years go back at once.

the80sweregreat · 16/02/2021 18:08

It's fine saying ' 15 million ' vaccinated but those people will need the second booster one too and there is still a long way to go with all this. I'm glad it's going so well , but 'cautious ' is the buzzword and people won't want to hear this I think. It's a tough call for everyone.
Not helped by business owners and back benchers screaming for things to go back to normal etc etc!
I know people are bored and fed up ; it could become a tinder box if not handled well.
Have to see how it pans out.

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2021 18:10

I am managing my expectations. I am hoping that whatever is announced on the 22nd will be more positive than previously, but I am not expecting any major changes from midnight so to speak!

I would love to hug my Mum and Dad and see DS1.

I don't believe that Lockdown, house arrest, is our future at all.

PhilCornwall1 · 16/02/2021 18:11

Announcement next week?

That'll teach me for not watching the news since December.

dinglehopper1 · 16/02/2021 18:11

More people are being added to the shielded list are they so I assume there will be some positive news.

EffIt · 16/02/2021 18:12

I think even if things do ease they'll lock us down again not long after

herecomesthsun · 16/02/2021 18:14

doom muppets lol

If this government is now listening to the scientists more and exercising some caution, that is excellent news as far as I am concerned.

Kids going back but carefully and with a view to doing it safely - great.

Vaccine numbers up - fantastic.

Cases, admissions and deaths down - thank God.

Toorapid · 16/02/2021 18:14

I didn't think schools would go back til after Easter but the leaks news seem so sure that they will be back on 8 Mar that I'd begun to believe it. Then they've massively extended shielding so schools will be closing or reduced due to lack of staff, even if the official position is that they're open.

Beaniecats · 16/02/2021 18:14

Vaccinations give us our freedom back
Yeah, right. More fool us for believing it

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2021 18:15

Aren't Scotland and Wales talking about some years returning to school on Monday?

Carlislemumof4 · 16/02/2021 18:16

People are taking themselves out of lockdown where I live. Once the sun comes out everyone will be mixing with family, in each others gardens and kids playing out on the street and in the park together. It'll be like the recent scenes in the snow, how are the police going to manage vast numbers of congenial people just going about their day together? Answer, they'll have to leave them to it, they don't have the numbers.

Schools need to go back March 8th or it's time to repeat the year, businesses such as retail and hospitality need to reopen by Easter or a universal basic income can no longer be avoided by the government.

MsFogi · 16/02/2021 18:16

@justanotherneighinparadise

I don’t need them to say that. I just want schools to reopen again. The rest I don’t care about.
Agreed
B33Fr33 · 16/02/2021 18:17

Why would schools go back? Students didn't go back until September last year, nothing is any different yet. The vaccine is only for the elderly and those who work with them.

WhenSheWasBad · 16/02/2021 18:17

I don't think so. They'd be foolish to let all years go back at once

All years back at once would be foolish. But this government has a habit of doing foolish things.

TwelvePaws · 16/02/2021 18:18

To listen to people around me they seem to think it'll be all holidays, hugging and parties before long..
They seem to think the vaccine means that's the end of it.

They are in for a shock.

Well they haven’t been listening properly if they’re going to be shocked. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ilikegrapes21 · 16/02/2021 18:18

I think people need to get used to the idea that while lockdown will hopefully be eased over the next few months, we are not going 'back to normal' for a very long time. Some businesses will be allowed to open over the summer but they will have to be 'covid secure' and with social distancing in place.

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2021 18:18

Didn't they say there would be 2 week's notice of schools reopening?

Macaroni46 · 16/02/2021 18:18

@motherrunner I feel your pain! Haven't seen my dad since Feb half term last year yet apparently come the 8 March it'll be ok for me to be back in a stuffed full classroom with rations of paper towels and hand gel for 'protection'. Oh and the windows open!
Don't get me wrong, I want to go back and the kids need it but a vaccine for all school staff would certainly go a long way to making me feel safer and more appreciated.

Staffy1 · 16/02/2021 18:18

I thought it was already decided that all children are going back to school on March 8th?

Lubiluxe · 16/02/2021 18:19

@wonderstuff

As for socialising the Twitter leak I read was we will be able to meet 1 person outside.
That is allowed currently though?!
