Covid infection after vaccine - experiences?

Just looking for some reassurance really. My 77 year old dad had received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine by January 2nd. He went into hospital for unrelated stuff about three weeks ago, and three days ago was diagnosed with covid after a routine swab. They do them every 2/3 days.

He currently feels absolutely fine but obviously has been moved to a covid ward so he doesn’t infect anyone. I know the likelihood is he will only get mild symptoms because he’s had the vaccine, but does anyone have any personal experience of this? It’s been such a tough few weeks for him so I do worry about him. He’s got a slightly sniffly nose at the moment but no other symptoms at all.

He must be one of the people to get the first vaccine and then the second, so I doubt there are many in your fathers position. Hopefully his symptoms will stay mild, I’m sure he is being monitored as this is what the vaccines are hoped they would do and it’s good to know. Sorry that he must have caught covid in hospital, this is still a worry.

Hope he is out of hospital soon.
Hopefully the vaccine will do enough so he only has a mild infection where as without it it could of developed further. Especially as he is lucky and has received both doses so higher levels of protection.

14 cases have been reported in a nursing home in Germany after having the Pfizer vaccine www.google.com/amp/s/amp.dw.com/en/coronavirus-digest-german-nursing-home-sees-outbreak-after-vaccines/a-56491823 . The article says all cases were mild, they were only detected when daily routine testing picked up an infected staff member and they then tested everyone. Fingers crossed your Dad's case stays mild.

Yes. A relative had their second jab 9th January. Went into hospital a week later and tested positive after a few days. No Covid symptoms at all. They were very old and ill, so it was good to see the protection that the vaccines provided to them

Thanks all - some reassuring posts. Dad is still showing nothing more than a slightly runny nose, so fingers crossed..

That’s very reassuring that vaccine seems to be working, from someone who has first hand knowledge.
