Anyone have this Covid symptom? Sinuses/nose?

Been poorly nearly a week now thankfully mild symptoms so far, coughing for a day or two, headache on/off, tiredness & loss of taste & smell. However, I have this awful pressure in my sinuses & my nose. Did anyone else have this? I haven’t read that’s a symptom before. If so how long did you have it for? Mine just doesn’t seem to be easing.

Someone I know who tested positive had that exact same symptom. Maybe you should get tested. Hope you feel better

ScrumptiousBears · 15/02/2021 19:46

My sister had this and I persuaded her to get tested and she was positive.

I had covid over Christmas and this was one of my symptoms, huge sinus pressure, not even any mucous or a runny nose but I couldn't breathe through my nostrils and had bad pain for a few days in all my sinus'

sconenotscon · 15/02/2021 19:52

I had this over Christmas. The blocked sinuses and sinus pain lasted 2 weeks and then I had terrible headaches for another week or so. I had no cough or temperature

Hope you're feeling better soon OP

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 15/02/2021 19:57

Yes it was my first symptom last year- that and sore eyes.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 15/02/2021 20:01

Oh hello.....

I've had this for a few weeks now....pain, no mucous, no other symptoms and we are Covid free in the household. Also have a fleeting vile smell like onions or garlic but icky from time to time.....

Didn't think it could be remotely likely to be virus related, especially as it's only on the right side....

Hmmmm.....

I’m so glad I stumbled across this thread...

I was ill at Christmas - incredibly sore throat, extreme tiredness with three hour naps on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, felt much better by new year but had a tiny bit of coughing. I didn’t bother testing as I thought I was just very run down and no one else was ill.

Felt fine for three weeks, maybe a bit tired. Then 4 weeks ago I started with a mild cold, lots and lots of sneezing and runny nose. Awful blocked sinuses followed. I had a rapid test when the cold started (as my close next door neighbour tested positive) and a normal test a week later because I lost my sense of smell due to blocked nose - both negative. Went to the chemist last weekend to ask for advice as I didn’t want to bother the doctor, she looked horrified and thought it might actually be Covid, they started disinfecting the surfaces as soon as I left 😳. So booked yet another test also negative 😮 I’m so confused, I do often suffer with sinus probs with colds and have really bad hayfever but never for this long, it’s been more than a month now.

So basically I’m wondering if I actually had it at Christmas and the sinus probs are related to long Covid.

Or am I just a massive hypochondriac? 😆

Mumtofourandnomore · 19/02/2021 08:24

I had blocked sinuses (not too bad) and a sore ear a month ago, it was my only symptom, no cough, no temp, no loss of taste, basically asymptomatic. I tested positive as a day 1 entry test as a travel requirement.

Benny11Letters · 19/02/2021 08:30

I had this just after Christmas. Nose so blocked I was breathing entirely through mouth for a few days and try as I might, I couldnt clear the snot out of my nose or open it up. No fever or cough, slight sore throat. There was one night where I was feeling panicky where I felt that I couldnt breathe, but I chalked it up to the nose being so blocked.

Im a veteran of many, many sinus infections and have all sorts of tricks to resolve sinus pressure, none of which worked. I did order a Covid test at that time, but didn't take it because cmon, it was just sinus pressure right?! And the weather was changing or maybe it was too much wheat at Christmas....

Two weeks later I knew I had a sinus infection and I called the GP, who prescribed doxycycline and told me to get a Covid test as it was presenting like a serious head cold. Covid test came back negative, and the doxy cleared things up (also messed with my mind a bit - don't ever want that again!). But then I had my vaccine two weeks after that and had a very strong response so..... quite potentially it was Covid.

Im on the shielding list and partner is WFH - the only place I can think I may have picked it up was the grocery store just before Christmas. We went late at night but it was still busy and I remember being apprehensive about the situation.

Dh was ill in March/April just as the first lockdown started, his dad subsequently tested positive after hospital admission and he had had contact with his dad. So we assume covid, barking cough for 6 weeks, no temp or loss of taste/smell but he waa pretty ill. After 2x antibiotics for a chest infection he then got massively blockes sinuses. He blew his nose one evening and I have never seen anything like it (he showed me cos he was worried and didn't know wtf it was). Bright yellow mucus, not snot more like an abscess bursting.

Got 100% for sure say covid cos no test but dh was run down for so long and still isn't 100% now.

VienneseWhirligig · 19/02/2021 08:34

I had that symptom at New Year along with a cough and anosmia. I tested negative though.

SneezyGonzalez · 19/02/2021 09:50

I can’t help but wonder if I’d actually tested at Christmas, it would have been positive...there would have been plenty of opportunities to catch it as we had the gas engineers in the week before Christmas, Christmas food shopping, etc it was absolutely rife in our area at that time.

Think it might be time to give the doc a call.. I’ve been taking Actifed as advised by the pharmacist but as soon as it wears off my sinuses block up again 😒

Benhew · 19/02/2021 12:27

I have that exact thing now, along with being feverish and chills, mild headache and sore throat - I am waiting for a test result. What concerns me is I hadnt been outside the house for a week before this began and even in the week before that only for a solitary walk...if i have a cold or indeed covid i have no idea where from - aside from shopping deliveries!

Borderscotch · 19/02/2021 12:30

Have covid currently and sinus pain was one of my first symptoms and is my last to go.

SneezyGonzalez · 19/02/2021 16:58

Dr has prescribed anti-biotics. I really don’t like having to take them but actually am so relieved. I asked if there was another bug going round and he said it isn’t likely due to lockdown...I suppose I’ll never know - unless I actually catch it for definite soon 😂

SneezyGonzalez · 19/02/2021 17:01

Benhew my neighbour caught it either from walking her dog or having people round for quotes to do her rear guttering so they literally walked quickly through the house to the garden (with masks of course).

Scarby9 · 19/02/2021 17:03

The last four people (one couple and two work colleagues) I know who tested positive all started with blocked sinuses / sinus pain.

ProfYaffle · 19/02/2021 17:05

Not me but someone I was talking to yesterday who tested positive started with sinus pain.

I will get a cold that ends up in the sinus and ear infection from hell and lasts bloody weeks into months at least once every winter without fail. Sounds completely and incredibly bloody irritatingly normal for me. My head plumbing seems to hate me.

If it goes on too long the GP will normally consider antibiotics to evict the bastard thing - but usually that takes me going back a couple of times before that point.

Angrymum22 · 19/02/2021 17:15

II had bad sinus pain a couple of weeks after symptoms started. It didn’t last long but was not usually sinusitis and had no discharge. I have seen a few patients who have experienced similar.
I had barking cough, fatigue and loss of smell but didn’t really feel that unwell.

shivbo2014 · 19/02/2021 17:34

Yes I had a very strange burning/pain in my sinuses as well as muscle aches. Didn't test for a few days when I lost my smell and taste. My symptoms lasted about 10days and sinuses were the last thing to feel better.

Figgyboa · 19/02/2021 17:34

Yes, I tested positive in January, this was the only symptom I had aside from loss of taste and smell which happened on day 6. I had 2 days where I couldn't lift my head of the pillow due to sinus pressure. I just took ibuprofen, inhaled vicks and took cold and flu medication. Symptoms lasted just over a week but 3 week on and my nose is still kinda blocked (i have bad sinuses at the best of times)

Wheresthebeach · 19/02/2021 17:50

Last March I had the worst sinus infection of my life. Just awful. Phoned GP who put me into isolation, send antibiotics and steroids. No tests back then but I was in bed for three weeks (cough, headache, aches came later). My records say I had Covid.
