Is shielding meant to continue after having the first vaccine?

My latest shielding letter said it was to remain in place until 21st Feb & then I’d get another letter if it was to continue.

I had my first vaccine 2 weeks ago so still 10 weeks to go until the 2nd.
Does anyone know if we are meant to continue shielding until we’ve had the 2nd vaccine?

My boss was asking me today when shielding ends - I think she’s hoping I’ll be back in office a bit more now I’ve had the first jab.

I would personally insist on shielding until my 2nd dose had taken effect.

In your case I would shield until 3 weeks after second dose.

Yes, see government website

Even if you have had both doses of the vaccine, you should continue to follow this shielding advice, until further notice as we continue to assess the impact of vaccination among all groups

@QueenPaw oh thank you, I did do a search for info online but didn’t find anything current - I will have a look at the government website. My boss is asking me when shielding is ending - think she’d like me to start going back to office a bit!

I would think shielding being paused by the government might be more of a decider than the vaccine. If cases get low enough they might pause it like they did last summer x

@QueenPaw are you able to link to where it is on gov website please, I can’t find anything after the January letter that was issued?

@QueenPaw sorry I’ve just seen it, it’s in the letter. It says they will update again before the 21st Feb so will wait & see what is said.

My mother was given a leaflet when she had her vaccination which stressed she must continue to shield until the government notifies a change of guidance.
I think the reason is that you may still be able to pass it on even if you are less likely to be ill with it yourself
