Unpaid carers in group 6

Missmummy88 · 14/02/2021 16:21

I’m an unpaid carer for my dh - I used to get carers allowance, but went back to work part time 2 years ago and therefore no longer get ca - but am his registered carer on the gov books despite receiving no benefit. I’m not sure whether the dr surgery has me recorded as a carer. Should I call them to let them know or will the invites be sent out from central gov? Do I need to officially tell nhs of my caring status or will gov talk to nhs? I’m confused! Thanks!

You need to make sure you are registered as a carer at your GPs.

I'm registered as a carer for my daughter although I don't qualify for carer's allowance because I also work part time.

Check you’re registered as a career with your GP. Mine had me down as a carer for my son (don’t claim CA) and called me up last week as they’ve started group 6 now.

TheRedBalloon · 14/02/2021 16:36

I'm a carer, get CA. I phoned my GP and was told that the appts didn't come from them anyway (they didn't have me down as a carer and didn't update my records.)

Thank you all

My gp had an online form to fill in to say who I cared for (son) and they text me a few days later to say my records were updated to include this information.

Angel2702 · 14/02/2021 17:58

You have to be. Coded as a carer on your records and the person you care for. You can usually do it via a form on their website.

This is not correct they may not send the appointment but the central database will gather those coded as a carer from your notes.

There’s an email template you can use to send your GP on the carers uk website.

I would check with the GP. I am coded as a carer for a disabled DC but don't get carers allowance either (earn above threshold too). My surgery wants additional written evidence for the covid vaccine if you don't get carers allowance. I have to contact a local carers charity to get documentation as proof.

It's annoying that is yet another postcode lottery 🙄 but definitely call/email your GP to let them know.

DH and I have were both jabbed last week, both unpaid carers for our DD / group 6. I receive carers allowance, he doesn't.

I filled in an online general query form on my go surgery website a few weeks ago, asking that my record be amended to show that I am a primary carer to my son, who received DLA. Gave them his diagnosis too.

I got a confirmation email from them a few weeks later to say that my record had been amended. Then DH did the same and got the same confirmation email.

I got a text on Friday asking me to book my vaccination appointment. I’m having it the week after next (the first day that was offered to me).

WellTidy · 14/02/2021 19:20

I don’t get carers allowance by the way as I earn more than the threshold.

Morporkia · 14/02/2021 19:36

You can download a template letter from carers U.K. here www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/health/looking-after-your-health/register-as-an-unpaid-carer-with-your-gp-template-letter

I’ve downloaded it and sent it to my GP as I only recently found out that I’m not officially registered as my husbands carer.

Kitewoman · 14/02/2021 19:46

good to see that many surgeries are vaccinating without causing a a lot of extra running around and chasing for unpaid carers. As if we haven't got enough on our plate with working a caring.

Copperblack · 14/02/2021 19:51

Do they offer you a flu jan? That can be a good indicator as to whether they have you registered as a carer ( unless you are eligible anyway)
