How do most people receive their C19 vaccine invite?

Phone call? Text, letter?
I imagine the invitation typically lists a variety of ways to book, most typically thru a website or app, but also thru 0845 type phone number - correct?

How many/What identity checks happen when booking?

Do people typically get a confirmation afterwards, such as a letter for those that don't have email/mobile?

Text from GP, then 5 days later I received the letter that is being sent out Nationally.

Mindymomo · 14/02/2021 11:41

Text on Friday, Dh 63 in group 6. I’ve also tried booking on the nhs website, but not eligible earlier in the day.

yeOldeTrout · 14/02/2021 11:43

So text as first choice, with letter to follow (always?) but phone calls or letters to those without mobile number listed? Or maybe no phone calls at all?

If someone lacks Internet skills, what are they supposed to do to book?

No follow letter here, text a text saying where and when.

giletrouge · 14/02/2021 11:47

Text but you can then book by phone if needed. No letter to follow for me but I booked it straight away - maybe the letter follows if they've not heard back in a certain timeframe?

ChristmasinJune · 14/02/2021 11:49

My parents got a voice mail from their GP's surgery and had to phone back on a mobile number. They both thought it was a scam but it was just the doctors receptionist working from home.

I got a letter forwarded from my head teacher at school (special)

My CEV friend got an official letter posted out from their surgery.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/02/2021 11:53

Text. But the date of birth was wrong. I entered the wrong one to get through the booking but when I arrived they had my correct date of birth and my address. Just from my name and mobile number. 🤔

Katinthedoghouse · 14/02/2021 12:01

Presumably there is an option to change date / time ?
( I’m school staff so would ideally like to avoid disruption to lessons )

TiddyTid · 14/02/2021 12:11

My DH had a text. Our surgery is calling in all over 50's now and I am so happy for him as he's been really worried about Covid and has bad asthma.

I'm 48 and can't wait for my turn!

PhilCornwall1 · 14/02/2021 12:16

A text message telling me to book it. Then got a letter telling me to book it, after I'd had it.

Iwasonceabrownie · 14/02/2021 12:19

Phone call from my surgery.

NeverWillIEver · 14/02/2021 12:19

Got a text inviting me to book but I'd already had it done via work.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 14/02/2021 12:22

We got a text with a link to book at the local GP centre

Fortyfifty · 14/02/2021 12:27

DH got a text message and then had to call the GP surgery. He's also in the just over 50 category.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 14/02/2021 12:37

Not had mine yet (group 6) but our surgery said to expect a text, followed by a letter and then they are phoning those that do not respond. So likely you can get booked quicker if you’re internet savvy, but follow ups should ensure no one gets missed.

YanTanTethera123 · 14/02/2021 12:40

Text last Wednesday, had jab yesterday morning.

Watsername · 14/02/2021 12:48

My mum got a letter, my dad got a phone call from the GP.

unmarkedbythat · 14/02/2021 12:49

My dad and my husband both got texts from the GP. Mine was via work and we were emailed a booking link.

ThornAmongstRoses · 14/02/2021 12:50

My dad rang his local hub earlier because rumours were circulating that lots of people weren’t turning up for their vaccines and so lots were going spare. He rang up to ask if it were true and if so were there any slots going...and they told him to go down in an hour he had his vaccine.

My mom did the same after lunch today (parents are separated but live in the same town as each other) and they gave her an appointment for two hours later.

They are both just turned 60 and no health problems.

Might be worth a try.....

CaraDuneRedux · 14/02/2021 12:53

My dad's was a letter through the post inviting him to book online (which I did for him) then a phone call from his GP - the day after he'd had his first jab (clear case of left hand not knowing what right hand was doing, but better to be asked twice than not at all!)

DownToTheSeaAgain · 14/02/2021 12:56

Text at 3:45 pm. Booked it online. Half hour walk to centre. Jabbed by 4:35.

Totally overwhelmed by the efficiency. I didn't even know I was eligible.

shinynewapple21 · 14/02/2021 13:05

I had mine done though work: we were emailed the booking link on our work email. We needed our NHS details to book and has to produce our work ID when we got there . I've subsequently had a text telling me I'm eligible and it's not clear where that was initiated as why would my work contact me via my personal phone, yet I wouldn't qualify medically . Strange .

Phyzzy · 14/02/2021 13:13

GP surgeries contact patients by text or phone. This will be for your local GP or Hub. If you are entitled in the next tranche of category 5/6 you will be contacted this way.

The letters come from the NHS centrally. This allows you to book at a mass vax centre or participating pharmacist. Most people can choose to wait for their GP if they want to. There is an integrated system which tells GPs who has had it.

If you qualify because of vulnerabilty such as diabetes / severe asthma only your GP will contact you, presumably as there isn't a national database. Whereas for age and CEV there is a national list.

In my case I never heard from either and booked on the NHS website following the link on various threads here. It only allowed me to book once it opened up to CEV on 29th Jan.
I got a letter on 12th Feb dated 29th January directing me to book online.
